🌟 School Holiday Program Highlights 🌟

What an incredible School Holiday Program we’ve had! The children loved every single day — from the exciting excursions to the fun-filled incursions, there was never a dull moment!

Our adventures began with a trip to the movies, complete with popcorn and the timeless classic Mrs Doubtfire. It was quite amusing to hear the children’s reactions — they commented that the movie was “very slow,” “had no songs or dancing,” and was “so different from movies nowadays.” Their observations made our educators feel just a little bit outdated! 😄

We also visited one of our all-time favourite places — Don Bosco! The children had an amazing time, from petting rabbits and watching the birds, to bouncing on the trampoline, playing pool, soccer, and basketball. There was something for everyone to enjoy!

Another highlight was our visit to Animal Land Farm in Diggers Rest, which was an absolute hit. The children loved exploring the farm — getting lost in the beautiful maze, visiting the ponds full of ducks, and meeting all kinds of animals: cows, horses, llamas, ponies, pigs with their piglets, goats, and sheep — and the list goes on!

We wrapped up our excursions with a fantastic day at the Melbourne Zoo, where children were in awe of the amazing animals and exhibits.

Our incursions were just as exciting! We had:

  • Andrew from Primary Colours, who is always a favourite. The children loved creating their little books and playing creative games with him.
  • Mad Science, which brought the wow factor with fun experiments, chemical reactions, and fascinating science facts.
  • A Magic Show that left everyone amazed, and of course, the Reptile Visit — where our brave kids got hands-on with creatures big and small!

It was truly a fun-filled and memorable program — full of learning, laughter, and great experiences. A huge thank you to our educators for their creativity, energy, and care in making the holidays so special.

Important Notes:

  1. 🎉 Student Free Day Fun – Wednesday 8 October! 🎉

Great news! OSHC will be open for All Day Care on Wednesday 8 October, from 7:30am to 6:00pm.

If you need care on the day, please make your booking through your Xplor Home app as soon as possible — spots are limited due to staff availability, and they’ll fill up fast!

What to Bring:🧺 A lunch box (just like a normal school day)💧 A drink bottle👒 A SunSmart hat

We’ve got a fun day planned, so don’t forget your energy and big smiles — we can’t wait to see you there!

  1. ☀️ Be SunSmart This Term! ☀️

As the warmer months approach, it’s the perfect time to remind everyone about the importance of being SunSmart. At OSHC, we’re committed to keeping children safe while they enjoy the outdoors.

Our SunSmart practices include:

  • Wearing a broad-brimmed hat when outside.
  • Applying SPF 30+ (or higher) sunscreen before outdoor play — and reapplying every two hours.
  • Encouraging children to seek shade during peak UV times.
  • Wearing sun-protective clothing that covers shoulders and arms.
  • Reminding everyone to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated.

We kindly ask families to make sure children arrive each day with a SunSmart hat and to apply sunscreen before coming to the program. Sunscreen is also available at the service for reapplication.

Together, we can help children build healthy SunSmart habits for life — while still having fun in the sunshine! 🌞

  1. 👕 Spare Clothes Reminder 👖

We’ve had a few little oops moments lately with some of our younger children — nothing major, just the result of getting a bit too busy having fun! While these incidents don’t happen often, it’s a good reminder to please pack a spare set of clothes in your child’s bag, just in case.

We also ask families to return any OSHC spare clothes that may have been borrowed. Our supply is running low, and we’d love to have them back for the next little adventurer who needs them.

Thank you for your help in keeping our OSHC cupboards stocked and our children comfortable — rain, shine, or messy play! 🌦️

Important Reminders:

  1.  No Personal Devices at OSHC – Effective 1 September

To help keep all children safe and focused during their time at OSHC, we kindly remind families that personal devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and smartwatches with cameras are not permitted.

👉 Please note: This change is compulsory from 1 September, in line with the National Model Code and the new legislation 168 (2)(ha).

If a child brings a device, it will be safely stored and returned to their family at the end of the session. This forms part of our existing ICT, Television, and Mobile Policy, which is currently being updated to align with these new requirements around child safety and the use of personal electronic devices.

Here’s how we manage personal devices during OSHC:

  • At roll call, children will hand their device to the educator in charge.
  • Devices will be placed in a secure tub.
  • The tub will be locked away in the OSHC office.
  • Devices will be returned at the end of the session by the educator in charge of the middle room.

We appreciate your support and cooperation in keeping OSHC a safe, respectful, and child-focused environment.
