Level 4

Level 4 – Term 4
It has been a very big start to our final term of Year 4. Our students have come back into the classroom fired up and ready for a wonderful term. We have a lot to look forward to over the next few weeks- with swimming in week 4 and camp in week 5. Please keep an eye out for notices and Compass posts to ensure this all runs smoothly.
In maths, in week 1 our students have been focused on measurement. We had a lot of fun ‘rescuing’ Mrs Dennis from her Science Lab experiment that went wrong!! We used length, area, and perimeter to find a smooth entry to the lab, elapsed time to crack the code to the alarm system, had fun squeezing enough orange juice to deliver a jug of refreshing juice to Mrs Dennis, mass to measure and create an ‘anti shrinking’ potion and temperature to ensure the lab did not explode under the heated pressure of our tasks!! We have all had a lot of fun with these hands-on learning opportunities. In week 2, we have been enjoying our probability sessions and look forward to continuing this over the next week.
In reading we continue to share Book Club novels and have shared our ideas when making connections, observing author’s language with the use of similes, metaphors, imagery and flashbacks, summarising and making predictions. All Level 4 classes are currently sharing Gary Paulsen’s book “Hatchet” as our class novels.
Our writing has had a focus on persuasive text and our students can be very persuasive when they are passionate about a particular issue or idea. We have seen the use of P.E.E.L (point, evidence, explanation and link) to help structure our pieces and we look forward to sharing our writing with you all when we are ready to publish our work.
