Level 3

Maths

In Mathematics, students have been exploring the features of 3D shapes, identifying faces, edges, and vertices through hands-on activities. We are now beginning to investigate perimeter and area, learning how to measure and calculate the distance around and the space inside different shapes. Students have been enjoying the challenge of applying these skills to real-life problems and design-based tasks.

Reading and Writing

In Reading and Writing, our focus has been on researching and gathering information to deepen our understanding of volcanoes and natural disasters. Students have been practising their note-taking skills, identifying key ideas, and organising facts to use in their upcoming explanation writing pieces. We are learning to follow the correct text structure, use strong topic-specific vocabulary, and explain processes clearly and logically.

We’ve also been using a range of Thinking Routines to help us think critically and make meaningful connections to the world around us.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry topic, “Our Changing Earth”, has continued to spark curiosity as students explore how Earth’s surface changes through natural processes like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and floods. Through videos, readings, and class discussions, we are developing a strong understanding of how these natural events shape the world we live in.

Respectful Relationships

In our Respectful Relationships lessons, students have been learning about problem-solving, teamwork, and understanding the difference between small and big problems. We’ve discussed strategies to help manage tricky situations, communicate respectfully, and support one another. These sessions have been a great opportunity for students to practise resilience and empathy in their daily interactions.
