Level 5

Welcome back, everyone!
We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing break. As we begin a new term, we’re excited for the learning, creativity, and growth that lies ahead. This term promises to be filled with engaging lessons, new challenges, and plenty of opportunities for students to shine. We can’t wait to see all the enthusiasm and curiosity our students bring to the classroom each day!
Reminder that in Term 4, hats are compulsory. Students must have a broad brim hat or bucket hat to participate in Physical Education and all other outdoor activities.
Celebrations from the week
A massive congratulations to Georgia Davis, who represented HEPS at the District Finals for hurdles. Georgia came second and will be progressing through to Division Finals. We will all be barracking for you Georgia!!!
Leadership Speeches for 2026
This week we conducted the penultimate step in the process for electing our 2026 Year 6 Leaders. Students worked tirelessly over the break to craft their leadership speeches and overcome nerves. We are all very blessed to have such an amazing group of students to choose from. Their speeches were from the heart and well written. As a Level 5 Team, we are all very proud of them all and think that they will do an amazing job next year.
Literacy
This term we are immersing the students in narratives. In Reading, we have been taking a deeper look at how authors use rising suspense to engage their audience and different types of endings used. In Writing, students have discussed what makes an excellent narrative, read short stories with the purpose of looking deeper at what the author does to create interest and started our character development for narratives which we will be writing this term. In Spelling, students have been looking at how authors use word choice to create a vivid mental picture for the reader, specifically relating to character and settings.
Numeracy
In Mathematics this term we have started off with looking at what students know about mapping and location. Students showed their global knowledge through labelling a world map, creating a treasure map and using Cartesian planes for coordinates.
Inquiry
Students will be participating in the Survival Unit in Term 4. This encompasses a wide variety of curriculum areas, such as Geography, Science, Digital Technologies and many others. To cover these areas in an engaging and challenging way, in groups, students will be creating their own BTN episode that has segments covering;

- Indigenous Environmental Management
