From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends,
World Teachers’ Day – Celebrating Our Amazing Teachers
Today we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, a day to recognise and thank the incredible teachers who make such a difference every single day. At Lysterfield Primary School, we are proud of the deep professionalism, expertise and dedication that our teachers bring to their work.
This year, our staff have shown extraordinary commitment to learning, reflecting and improving their practice. They have embraced explicit direct instruction (EDI) across all curriculum areas, strengthened their implementation of PhOrMeS Word Work and Literature Units, refined Knowledge-Rich Units, and embedded consistent, evidence-based routines in every classroom.
Completely transforming the way a school teaches is no small task. Over the past year, our teachers have not just learned new programs and approaches, they’ve relearned how to teach in a way that aligns with the science of learning. This has required courage, persistence, and an extraordinary level of professionalism. Implementing change while still teaching full-time, supporting students, and maintaining the calm, structured classrooms our students deserve is a remarkable achievement. The pace and scale of what our teachers have learned and implemented, on the fly, has been nothing short of inspiring.
Their willingness to continuously learn, collaborate and take on feedback has ensured that all students receive high-quality teaching, every lesson, every day. This year, our teachers have:
- Designed and delivered structured, sequenced lessons grounded in cognitive science.
- Implemented new approaches to reading, spelling and writing with support from AERO and SOLAR Lab (La Trobe University).
- Used student data and observations to adjust instruction and maximise learning time.
Worked together to plan, observe and refine practice as true professionals.
We are incredibly proud of the growth culture that exists among our staff, the drive to keep getting better for our students and for one another. Teaching is both an art and a science, and our teachers at LPS embody both with passion, care and precision.
On behalf of our community, we say thank you to every teacher for your expertise, your care, and the difference you make in the lives of children each day. You truly are the heart of our Pegasus Family.
Have a great weekend,
Adam Wight, Principal
