Prep Area

Welcome to Term 4!

On behalf of all of the Prep team, we hope that everyone had a lovely holiday break and is as excited for another term of learning as we are! We can't believe how quickly the year has gone, but Term 4 is sure to have lots of memorable moments.

Some important reminders for this term are:

• Term 4 is a sun-safe term, so please ensure your child is wearing a broad-brimmed hat
• Week 5 - Monday the 3rd and Tuesday 4th November are Student Free Days
• Weeks 6 and 7 - our swimming program is on. Please consent and/or pay via Compass as soon as possible

Writing

This term, we are taking inspiration from our fairy tale focus in reading to create our own narrative writing pieces. Throughout the week, we have been following the narrative sequence to create an orientation (introducing our characters and setting), a complication (a problem occurs to our characters, setting or both!), and a resolution (how our problem is resolved). 

Each Friday, we have a surprise suitcase setting to write about as well. These prompts have already seen some amazing, creative ideas, and we are very proud of all of our writers!

Maths

In Maths, we are revising the concept of subtraction. We have been talking about how subtraction is when we know the whole and take away one part to find how many are left (the other part). We have been using our friends of ten understanding, ten frames, real-life number stories, including subtraction bowling to complete our subtraction number sentences.

Word Study

In Word Study, we have been revising our digraphs from last term, as well as practising, reading, making and writing new words. This daily practice has been very helpful for being able to read these words in our books, as well as using our understanding of spelling rules to include them in our writing.
