Spotlight on Learning
Jericho Community
Dear Families & Friends
Its been a wonderful and busy week of learning. The vibe around the community is focused and on task. Keep those batteries coming in as we have less than a month left to collect as many batteries as we can.

English:

This week we finished reading the book Storm Boy. The last sections of our informative text about the Coorong have been put together and we spend next week typing up our Informative text ready to publish to show what we can do independently. Next week the students will also complete assessment about their learning related to the Storm Boy text and how to create informative texts. The students will also continue to explore vocabulary and practise their typing skills.
Mathematics:
This week students our focus was on Mass and Capacity. They used analogue scales and measuring jugs to explore a range of concepts such as things can be small but heavy, large but light, ordering by capacity rather than size, and how to read both the analogue scales and jugs correctly.

Next week the students will begin a 3 week unit learning about 3D objects. Students will identify the difference between 2D & 3D shape, create their own 3D shape using 2D shapes, identify the language used to describe 3D shapes and practice drawing 3D shapes.
Religious Education:
This week the students learnt about poverty within Australia and how we can be pilgrams of hope, how our school can be a pilgrim of hope and how they can continue to live the mission. The students were introduced to the role of Caritas in our community, how it helps communities in need, and how we can help Caritas. Next week, we begin to get ready for our Community Mass (due to short week coming up) as well as working out how they can act, to move from being a pilgram to a missionary.
Social & Emotional Learning & Integrated Studies:
This week we talked about ways to seek help or to help others. We talked about situations where people are distressed because they have been left out, or hurt by others, or worried about something that has gone wrong. Next week, students will explore how they know whether a problem is ‘serious’ or not and how we know whether we should involve other people in helping us to solve our problem.

Auslan:
This week the students learnt to sign a range farm animal labels. Next weeks, students will undertake the midcycle assessment reviewing colours, pets and farm animals while also updating their learning journals.
