Year Two

Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Families,

We’ve had a wonderful start to the term and can’t believe we’re already in Week 3! Students have settled back into routines and are engaging enthusiastically in their learning. It’s been lovely to see their confidence and teamwork growing each day as we continue to explore new topics and activities in the classroom.

Friendly Reminder:  Please ensure your child is in the correct school uniform and has their name on items that come off and on during the day. This includes jumpers and jackets. We have a lot of lost property at school to check if needed.

This week we learnt about:

Religious Education: This week we are unpacking the scripture that we will hear in our Mass next week.

Jeremiah 31:33

“I will make this agreement with the people of Israel,” says the Lord.

“I will put my teachings in their minds. And I will write them on their hearts.

I will be their God, and they will be my people."

Here are the songs for Mass if you would like to practise at home

Mathematics: In Maths this week, we are learning about fractions. Students are exploring how to share objects and groups into equal parts and are learning to identify halves, quarters, and eighths. Through hands-on activities, they are discovering that fractions are a way of showing fair shares and equal pieces.

English: In English, we are staying on the theme of pigs however we will be looking at fiction texts this week. We will be reading 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs' and we will focus on writing persuasive responses in relation to the text.

Social & Emotional Learning: This week and next, we are diving deep into learning about trusted adults and what that means. What are the qualities of a trusted adult? Who can be a trusted adult? We will identify trusted adults in our lives at both school and outside of school.
