Year One

Spotlight on Learning

Jerusalem Community

Dear Families,

It’s been another great week of learning and growing together in Year One. Our students have settled back into school routines with enthusiasm and are continuing to build on the wonderful progress they’ve made this year. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to make Term 4 a positive and rewarding finish to the school year.

Important Reminders

  1. Next Monday, students will be choosing their three Learning Friends— peers they enjoy learning with. We encourage families to have a chat at home over the weekend about who their child learns well with, including friends from other classes.
  2. Term 4 is a Sunsmart term and 'No hat, no play', please ensure your child has their hat for school.
  3. All students are expected to wear full St Thomas’ school uniform — either summer, winter or PE is fine, but it must be the official school uniform.
  4. Here is some information to help you prepare for our upcoming excursion, please read with your children.

This week:

Literacy-Reading - We adopted the book 'What's cooking at 10 garden street' to introduce our upcoming community garden activity at Myuna Farm.

Ways to engage with the newsletter:

  • Read or watch the weekly book with your child at home (there is often a read aloud on you tube). Talk about what the book's most important ideas are.

  • Ask your child to retell the story using their own words.

  • Talk about who the characters are, where the story is happening.

  • Use the spelling words provided to make up sentences at home or simply a 5 word mini dictation.

  • Take the idea around Mathematics and ask students to repeat an activity they did at school, with you.
