Dear Families,
Its been a fantastic week of learning, while also taking part in the Elephant Education incursion. All classes participated in a 60 minute incursion about consent and respectful relationships. Well done to all our students for their respectful participation.
OUR LEARNING:
Religious Education:

This week students planned and began writing a persuasive letter about their chosen charitable project to inspire others to take action and make a positive difference. Next week they will complete their letter before they join forces with other students to begin brainstorming various actions they can undertake to support their charitable project.
English:

This week, the students continued to work on many elements of writing including adding appositives (a noun phrase written next to a noun or pronoun to explain or define it) to their writing, creating a body paragraph within their persuasive letter, and researching therapy dogs and wellbeing dogs. The students are continuing to read Can you see me, explore it's vocabulary and use their research to write persuasive letters independently.
Mathematics:
Students are studying Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. This week, the students have been solving real life fraction and budgeting problems using division, multiplication and percentages amounts. Next week the students will be using The World Estimation resources to reason and find smart estimates using the Fraction, Decimal and Percentage skills they have learnt, before finishing the unit at the end of the week.
Integrated Studies:
This term's topic is 'Taking Charge of my health'. This week the student were learning to explain what healthy eating means and why it is important for our health and energy. They looked at the five food groups, the healthy food pyramid and the influence advertising has on what we eat. Their activities included creating their own balanced meal and healthy lunchbox ideas.

Next week students will be focusing on the importance of Sleep and how it helps our body, our mood and our brain.
Social & Emotional Learning:
This week the students learnt what it was like to trust someone else as they were led around the classroom blindfolded and what actions and communications from the leader at the time were helpful. Students discussed the trust it required to discuss larger problems and issues and that we need to have the courage to cope if our initial discussions don't get us the help we require.
Auslan:
This week the students extended their focus on animals that live in the sea. This has enabled the students to use the sign language in a wider range of situations, while creating their own imaginative stories about sea creatures. Students will compare and contrast sign language from countries such as Japan, The United Kingdom and the United States to Auslan. Next week the students will be practicing the signs for 'things that fly', for example; fly, kookaburra, butterfly, mosquito, cockatoo and duck, while also conducting further exploration of other countries Sign Language.
