Gospel and reflection

Sundays Gospel Luke 17:5-10

Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves.

“If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”

He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.

“Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Reflection

In Sundays Gospel, Luke 17:5-10, the disciples ask Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus responds with a profound illustration, emphasising that faith, even as small as a mustard seed, can achieve the extraordinary. He then shares a parable about a servant who, after working all day, does not expect thanks but continues to serve. This passage invites us to reflect on the nature of faith and service.

Faith is not merely about asking for more; it’s about recognising the power of even the smallest amount of belief in God’s goodness and ability to work in our lives. It challenges us to understand that our service to God and others should be driven by humility and an understanding that we are merely doing our duty, not seeking rewards or recognition. We saw this in action during the Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp in the way our Year 11 students and generous staff put their faith into action and gave themselves selflessly with passion, kindness and understanding.

Prayer

Lord, grant us the faith of a mustard seed, that we may trust in Your power and presence in our lives. Help us to serve with humility, recognising that every act of service is a reflection of Your love. May we not seek recognition but find joy in our duty to You and to others. Strengthen our faith and guide us in our journey of service. Amen.

Mary our good mother – pray for us

St Marcellin Champagnat – pray for us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop – pray for us

And may we always remember – to pray for one another

Amen.+

Sony Foundation Camp

While the majority were starting their holidays, approx. 65 MCA students, 40 MT A students and 30 staff were preparing for the arrival of 16 campers for the annual Sony Foundation Camp! A weekend of FUN, EXCITEMENT AND JOY was had by all with activities such as Build-a-Bear, Street Science, Pool play, Art Activities, Movie Night, Vehicle Show, Carnival, Disco, Cricket, Magic Show and lots of delicious food and rides in the golf carts.

Our students did a phenomenal job caring for our campers, I recall 2 conversations – both very different! One companion joyfully shared that his camper had done his first poo of the weekend which we were all very excited about! The 2nd companion told us how his camper started crying out of no where and when asked what was wrong, the camper replied with, “they are just happy tears” – Cue allllllll the happy tears from everyone present.

Please enjoy our camp video created by the amazing student media volunteers!

We are forever grateful for the assistance of our student, staff and medical volunteers! The camp simply couldn’t happen without your care, energy and time so a big THANK YOU to everyone below from the Mission Team.
