Future Facing - Parent Survey 

As we all know, future facing initiatives have been implemented since the start of this year. As part of our commitment to assess and review the impact of these initiatives, students and teachers have completed surveys over the last six Flipped Mondays, concluding on Monday 3 June.

As part of the process of review led by the Action Research Team, parents can now offer their feedback via this survey. If you can make the time, between 10 - 15 minutes to complete the survey would be greatly appreciated. The survey is open until 9.00am, Monday 24 June.

Responses from all three surveys (students, staff and parents) will be reviewed by the Action Research Team and Action Research Assistant. Themes emerging from the surveys will be further explored at focus group interviews led by Dr Phil Cummings from Circle Education in late July, with the College receiving a preliminary report by the end of August.

Sacred Heart Day - Friday 14 June

The most significant day on the Chevalier College calendar is Sacred Heart Day which, in 2024, will be held next Friday 14 June. Sacred Heart Day at Chevalier College is a cherished annual event that celebrates the values at the heart of our community. With a morning Mass followed by games and lunch in the afternoon, it’s a day where we come together to honour the core principles of kindness, compassion, inclusivity, and hospitality, as envisioned by Jules Chevalier, founder of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.

Jules Chevalier's mission was to embody the heart of Jesus in our daily lives, encouraging us all to live out these values in our interactions and decisions. This ethos is integral to the Chevalier College experience, influencing everything we do. Sacred Heart Day is not just a celebration; it’s an opportunity for our students to immerse themselves on a day where we reflect on our MSC spirit and strengthen their sense of community and spirituality. It is important for each student to be here.

Wet weather arrangements have been put in place if events in the afternoon are cancelled. It has been communicated to students that we will proceed with Day 10 periods 3, 4 and 5 if activities are cancelled due to wet weather. The reason for our need to stress this point is because of what took place at the Athletics Carnival last Friday. Unfortunately, 209 students did not attend school on that day. Our usual number of absences, even during this time of Winter, averages 90, and sometimes a little higher during times of extreme sickness. Also, once events were cancelled, another 345 students left early, 90 of whom were Year 12 students who were granted permission to study at home. Let's hope that the weather allows us to enjoy a full and vibrant range of activities. If we are to cancel activities, I am very confident that with this clear messaging about ‘Plan B’, all students will remain onsite for the entire day.

I look forward to all students participating in Sacred Heart Day, as it reinforces the spirit that defines our College, and your child's presence contributes to the vibrant spirit of our Chevalier family.

Sacred Heart Day - Friday 14 June

Sacred Heart Day, the day that defines Chevalier College and celebrates who we are, will be held on Friday 14 June. The day will commence with Sacred Heart Day Mass and will be followed by home room games and a barbeque for students, and our Mission Concert later that evening.

Mass

• Families and Chevalier Past Students are warmly invited to join us for our Sacred Heart Day Mass which will be held at 9.00am in McGrath Hall.
• Please register your attendance here so that we can ensure sufficient seating.

Uniform

• Years 7 to 10 – sports uniform
• Year 11 to 12 – sports uniform OR if no sports uniform, College uniform and a change of retreat-style sports clothing to wear following Mass
• Captains and any student with a role at Mass (e.g. readers, choir) – College uniform and a change of retreat-style sports clothing to wear following Mass.

Lunch

• A BBQ lunch and a drink will be provided for all students.  
• There will be gluten free, dairy free and vegan/vegetarian options available.
• The Canteen will be open from the start of the day until the end of Break 1.

Other details for Sacred Heart Day

• The school office will operate with minimal staff as all staff are involved in this special feast day.
• The Chev Shop will be closed.
• Students will not be able to arrive late, depart early, or leave and return for an appointment on this day. If appointments are made for 14 June and cannot be changed, your child will be unable to join us for Sacred Heart Day.
• If you need to contact Student Services on the day, please call 4861 0528. 

Wet weather plan

• The Mass will go ahead as planned and all students are expected to attend.
• Students should come prepared for Day 10 (Periods 3-5), in the event the afternoon activities are cancelled due to wet weather. 
• The BBQ lunch will be held as planned.

Mission Concert - Friday 14 June

Tickets for the Mission Concert are on sale now until sold out!   

All students/guests MUST have a ticket to enter.  There will be NO tickets sold at the door.  Students who are performing at the concert do not require a ticket.  Tickets are available at https://events.humanitix.com/mission-concert-2024

All proceeds will go towards the MSC Missions Office to support victims of the PNG Landslide.

Vinnies Winter Appeal

Students and families are invited to contribute to the Winter Appeal in one of the following ways during Weeks 5 - 8 (27 May - 20 June).

1. Donate using EFTPOS or cash. Each day during home room in Weeks 5 - 8, different home rooms will be visited with the EFTPOS machine and donation box. These funds will be used to provide vouchers for families to purchase food and other items.
2. Donate online using the Chevalier College Vinnies Winter Appeal fundraising page which will be available on the school’s socials and Daily Notices. Donating using this method provides individuals with tax deductible receipts. 
3. Donate goods requested by the local Vinnies Conferences such as long life milk, instant coffee, tea, pasta sauce, and personal care items such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, toothbrush. Please ensure goods are in date and undamaged, to help cherish the dignity of the individual receiving the goods.

TAFE NSW are offering virtual subject selection information sessions for interested Year 10 students and parents/caregivers. Topics covered in the sessions will include:

• TVET courses, types of courses and how they relate to the HSC

• Pathway options to further study and a career
• School based apprenticeships and traineeships
• Attendance at TAFE
• Reporting to schools
• TAFE NSW website – how to navigate the TVET Guide and further information

MTB Training

MTB training will resume from Wednesday 12 June for 2 weeks in preparation for the Willo 2024 race which will be held on Sunday 23 June.

Payments to the College

We are writing to inform you that the College has undertaken a review of payment methods currently accepted.

After careful consideration, a decision has been made that the College will no longer be accepting American Express cards.  This will come into effect from Monday 22 July 2024. Please note this does not apply to donations through the ‘Shield & Heart’ website or enrolment related fees.
