PERFORMING ARTS
Concert news:
The students have completed inquiry projects in class which tie in with the theme of this year's concert "Wildlife Adventure." The students are enjoying their dances and sharing their learning through their inquiry projects.
On Monday June 17, grades 4/5B, 5/6L, 5/6J and 5/6S came together in the gym for their first concert dance practice as a cohort. It was a great opportunity to have a go in front of an audience and get some feedback from their peers. We are so excited for our concert in September.
VISUAL ARTS
The students have completed stunning art projects on their concert item of inquiry. The preps made a bee collage, the grade 1 and 2s practised with watercolour pencils on the orange bellied parrot, in grade 3 and 4 the students made mesmerising corroboree frog patterns and the 56-s made beautiful coral drawings. We will soon start making props for the concert. Can I ask families to bring any old swim noodles, some egg cartons and cardboard tubes (from food wraps NO TOILET PAPER tubes please!)
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Last Friday June 14, the 5/6's competed in Lightning Premiership. Students participated in soccer, AFL, netball and tee ball. We played in the Pakenham zone against some really large schools, everyone tried their best. Congratulations to the tee ball team who came third on the day. Well done to everyone involved.
We are looking forward to our upcoming 3-6 Athletics Day on Tuesday June 25.
AUSLAN
We have had a busy first half of the year in Auslan! All levels have worked hard to remember the Acknowledgement of Country and Advance Australia Fair. It is so nice to see everyone having a go at assembly each fortnight. Preps have learnt colours, family members and animals. Grade 1/2 have learnt how to order at a cafe in Auslan, items around the house and how to ask questions. Grade 3/4 made a treasure map where and gave their friend directions in Auslan to find the treasure. They are learning how to use facial expression and movement to enhance their Auslan skills. The 5/6's have been learning how to tell a story in Auslan as well as learning about the Deaf community and culture.
SUSTAINABILTY / SENSORY GARDEN NEWS
We were lucky enough to receive a Junior Landcare Grant to help support our Veggie Garden, to the value of $980. The grant is to be used for support with setting up a compost and worm farming system with the Grade 3/4's. Students in these year levels are now able to start composting their food waste in their classroom compost bins, which will be fed into our worm towers.
