Italian

Year 1 students have been actively engaged in identifying where they live and practising simple Italian sentences, building a foundational understanding of the language. They have particularly enjoyed using Seesaw, a digital learning platform, to develop their language skills in an interactive and enjoyable way. Through Seesaw, they could record and listen to their own voices, fostering confidence and accuracy in their pronunciation.

Additionally, they have been exposed to a variety of Italian songs, which has further enriched their learning experience. Listening to these songs not only helped them become familiar with Italian sounds and rhythms but also made the learning process more enjoyable and culturally immersive. Overall, these activities have provided a well-rounded approach to language acquisition, combining technology, music, and practical exercises to reinforce their new skills.

Year Two students have been involved in diverse Italian animal activities, which have sparked their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Through these engaging activities, they have explored the names and characteristics of various animals in Italian, enhancing their vocabulary and comprehension skills. By using digital technologies, such as educational apps and interactive games, they have practised the language in a fun and immersive way.

These digital tools have allowed the students to engage with the material more deeply, providing instant feedback and opportunities for repeated practice. The integration of technology has made it easier for students to learn at their own pace, catering to different learning styles and abilities. This multifaceted approach has not only strengthened their understanding of key concepts but also fostered a love for learning Italian, setting a strong foundation for future language studies.

Visual Arts - Year 5 and 6

Gabrielle Young

Gabrielle Young is an Australian artist who creates art using ink and pen. Gabrielle's artwork features fine, hand drawn detail using ink pen, as well as ink applied by brush to add colour and to create the mood of each piece. She’s well known for her intricate artworks of sea life and nature. After studying Gabrielle’s work and art style, we created our own artworks inspired by her style. Year 6 students explored sea creatures while Year 5 students drew their inspiration from dragonflies. Our focus elements of art were line, texture and value. We learnt about these elements of art and how to use them intentionally while creating art. We practised a variety of painting skills and techniques. After detailed planning of our artwork, we used a variety of ink painting techniques to create beautiful paintings on canvas.

Art Pre-Primary - Year 4

This term in Art students have had the opportunity to work across a range of mediums exploring colour and famous artists who are important in history.

In Pre-Primary we have noticed colours can represent emotions and have pulled many funny faces for our self-portraits.

In Year 1, Hundertwasser has inspired our artists to create funky towns filled with lollipop trees and patterns.

The Year 2’s have researched Peter Cromer, creating their own mixed media artworks of native birds using paint, paper and collage.

While our Year 3 and 4 students have used oil pastels to make larger than life insects and flowers that are brightly coloured and expertly blended.
