Pre-Primary Lorikeets and Possums
In Pre-Primary we have been working extremely hard on learning how to read and write CVC words. The children have been completing lots of different activities that are helping us to form our letters correctly and use segmenting and blending strategies to begin reading. It has been fantastic to watch the children’s confidence grow throughout the last few weeks as we continue to progress with the lessons.
During our Maths blocks we are working on simple addition, counting on and grouping numbers to ten. Over the last few weeks, the children have used a variety of games and concrete materials to apply their number knowledge to a range of tasks. We are going to be amazing mathematicians as we grow up!
In Religion our focus has been on friendships, we have read and listened to Bible stories on how Jesus was a great friend to his disciples but also how he helped those he did not know.
Our inquiry learning is coming to an end on the wonderful world of snails. We are excited to see what interesting facts we will learn about spiders throughout the coming weeks.
Year 5 Bandicoots and Dingoes
It has been an exciting first half of the term. With our recent LifeLink Day Mass, students have been completing activities based on Confirmation and Penance. Students researched inspiring Catholics who live out the fruits of the Holy Spirit in their lives, such as Oscar Romero and St. Stephen the Martyr.
Over the past week, students have also been spending time appreciating Aboriginal culture by completing activities inspired by the books “Stories for Simon” and “The Lost Girl”. They have spent time reflecting on the impact colonialism has had on the First Nations People of the land.
In writing, the focus has been on persuasive texts. Students are writing about whether they should be allowed to have mobile phones.
In numeracy, we are now working on collecting and representing data on the cultures of Year Five students.
The focus for technology has been on sequencing algorithms. Students have been completing tasks on Code.Org where they are required to solve problems using coded algorithms to create a character. The aim is to create a program that allows their character to navigate through a maze using the algorithm.
We are excited to see the final product and the wonderful work of the Year 5 students.
