From The Team

What another busy fortnight in the Year 3/4 level!  This fortnight we have had students rehearsing for The Victorian State Schools Spectacular, planning and building Sphero designs, participating in the second week of bootcamp for Write2Read, and selected students also attended a high ability mathematical event with Monash Tech.

On Wednesday, the 3/4 level participated in an incursion in which they practised their writing skills.  Students investigated writing processes such as 5 Sizzling Starts, Planning, Writing, Revising and Editing and, lastly, Publishing/Illustrating before sharing their work in the collaborative space.  Some students also enjoyed a virtual visit from author Jacqueline Harvey.

We would like to pass on a huge congratulations to Leila W. who, on Wednesday last week, participated in the Division Cross Country.  Leila represented Scoresby Primary School with an impressive individual performance, and we are all so proud of her accomplishment in running.

Congratulations also to Ethan and Amir, who have successfully completed Rainbow Maths 'Gold Level', and have worked hard at developing their fluency and conceptual knowledge in mathematical skills.

During today's Curriculum Day, Scoresby Primary School staff have been undertaking professional learning and development to further their knowledge on Write2Read.

Next Monday 10th June is a public holiday, so we will see everyone back at school on Tuesday 11th June.

We encourage you to take the opportunity to ask your child about what their highlight from the last two weeks has been.

What We Are Learning

Reminders

Reading Logs

We have a large number of students who are not bringing their Reading Logs back to school each Friday. It is important that students are reading on a daily basis. Please support your child with a few reminders.

Homework

Homework is due alternate Fridays. This term, we ask that you encourage and support your child to complete their homework and to return it by the due date for checking. The tasks have been planned based around the skills that we have taught at school and it is important that students consolidate their learning in order to retain their new knowledge.

Try This...

Here is part of the conversation between a group of children as they discuss a tall tree nearby:

"I wonder how tall it is?" says Linus.

"I think we could find out," replies Raj.

"It could be difficult as it's very high," says Toby.

  • I wonder how they each went about finding out the height of the tree?
  • I wonder how YOU would find out how tall a large tree in your surroundings is?

Congratulations Leila for being selected to run in Division Cross Country

Congratulations Ethan and Amir for Reaching Gold Level in Rainbow Maths
