School Councillor Profile

Andrew Harrap

Well, the Melbourne winter is well and truly here now, and we are not far from the July school holidays and the end of term 2. I thought this would be a great opportunity to introduce myself as one of the newest members of the School Council.

My name is Andrew Harrap, and my wife Danae and I first joined the CPS school community at the initial onset of COVID with my eldest son Henry who is now in Grade 3 this year. Henry has now been joined by his twin sisters, Penelope and Madeleine, who have started this year in Prep. We have been living in Carnegie since 2017, and just love the strong community vibe, food options (we love food!) and ease of getting into the city.

My main motivation for putting my hand up for council was my deep commitment to advocating for the best outcomes for our school and its students, and I was eager to contribute my skills and experiences to shape the school’s future positively. I’m keen to focus on how I can contribute to school’s development and improvements and have input into any policies that are looking to be updated or developed.

As a Chartered Professional Engineer with over two decades of expertise in delivering vital public infrastructure projects, including Skyrail (that’s not a swear word anymore, is it? haha), I possess a wealth of intimate knowledge in contract and construction management. Furthermore, in the last six years, my involvement in collaborating with the State Government to secure funding for essential community infrastructure projects has significantly increased my understanding of balancing budgetary responsibilities with societal needs.

I believe that my multifaceted skill set and passion for education will be valuable assets in the development, review, and monitoring of initiatives aimed at enhancing the school’s performance and fostering a supportive learning environment for all students. This, along with extensive experience in corporate and government governance processes, I look forward to being able to bring a great skillset that the School Council could benefit from.

With the return to office working becoming ever more present in my working life, I am not around the school grounds as much as I once was, but always keen to receive any direct feedback that is worthy of discussion in the School Council setting, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you see me at school, or more simply you can email me.

Have a great remainder of 2024!

Cheers

Andrew
