From the  Principal

Karen Roberts

Dear families,

You may have noticed a bigger than usual focus on our morning routines. We have introduced a ‘soft start’ across our school that is aimed at ensuring learning starts at 9.00am.

The BIG slogan is:

Learning Starts at 9.00. Be on time.

Ensuring that our students arrive on time every day is crucial for fostering an environment where every child can thrive and succeed.

Punctuality is not just about being present at a specific time; it is about setting the stage for a productive and successful day. This consistency helps them to settle in and focus, ensuring they don’t miss out on valuable instruction time.

Developing the habit of punctuality, sets students up for success. Ensuring everyone is present from the start helps maintain a smooth and cohesive learning environment.

Arriving on time helps students feel prepared and confident. Walking into a classroom that has already started can be stressful and can affect a child's mood and concentration for the rest of the day.

Our Commitment to a 9:00 AM Start

Here are a few ways we can work together to achieve this:

Morning Routines: Establishing a consistent morning routine at home can help ensure a timely arrival at school. This might include setting out clothes the night before, having a regular bedtime, and preparing backpacks and lunches in advance.

Arrival Time: Aim to arrive at school by 8:45 AM.

This allows time for students to transition into the school environment, greet their friends, and prepare for the day ahead. Our music starts at 8.55am which is the signal for students to enter their classroom. Look at the whiteboard to see what’s required to start the day.

Supportive Environment

We understand that occasional delays happen. If there are any challenges preventing your child from arriving on time, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to support you and find solutions together.

Partnering for Success

Please remember, we are committed to providing a high-quality education for every student. Your support in ensuring punctuality is invaluable in helping us achieve this goal.

By working together, we can create an environment where every child is ready to learn from the moment the bell rings.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Let’s continue to make Carnegie a place where our students can succeed and thrive each and every day.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

Last week we celebrated Reconciliation Week. This year, the theme for the week was a call to action to continue the fight for Indigenous issues, “Now More Than Ever”.  It’s a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Our teachers promoted a range of learning in their classrooms and we celebrated with a dress in Yellow day on Friday.

RUBBISH CLUB

I am really proud of Issy who has initiated a Rubbish Club at Carnegie PS that operates two days a week in an effort to eliminate the extreme amounts of rubbish at our school. Ideally, we are trying to educate our students to put their waste in the bin, but this is not a daily practice yet.

Issy has shown initiative and agency to write scripts for assembly presentations, and purchased ‘incentives’ to acknowledge those who commit to the practice.

Students assemble at the office to collect their buckets and tongs.

This weeks 'winner’ was Phoebe who has been incredibly enthusiastic in participating in the club. Congratulations Phoebe.

OBSERVING PARKING SIGNS AROUND THE SCHOOL

I’d like to remind everyone about the importance of observing the parking signs around our school, especially the designated disabled parking spot.

Recently, we've noticed the disabled parking spot being used by parents/carers without the necessary permits. This spot is reserved for those who genuinely need it, and using it without proper authorisation can cause significant inconvenience for our families / students who need it most.

Please ensure you are parking in the appropriate spaces.

I wish to acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which this is being read and pay my respects to elders past present and emerging. I wish to acknowledge our First Nations people and pay respects to them. I note further that these lands were never ceded and are, and always will be, Aboriginal Lands.
