Careers

Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

This term, we were fortunate to be able to attend various careers events and excursions, including the University of Canberra Explore Day, the Western Riverina Careers Expo, TAFE Yes Construction Program, White Card Course as well as having several universities speak with our senior students about their early entry programs.

This term, I also had the privilege of attending the 2024 NSW Vocational Training Awards ceremony in Wagga Wagga, where Tahlia Gilbert was announced as the winner of the Vocational Education and Training Indigenous Student of the Year Award for the Riverina! This award was fantastic recognition of Tahlia’s hard work, dedication, and commitment to her School Based Traineeship with Murrumbidgee Local Health District – Narrandera Hospital. Tahlia will now be interviewed for the state finals which will be held in Sydney in September this year. Good Luck Tahlia!

TAFE YES Construction Program:

Our group of TAFE YES Construction students attended their final day up at Narrandera TAFE last Friday and all completed their resort chairs. Students all helped each other complete their projects and worked well as a team to assist each other.

A huge thank you goes to all the staff of Narrandera TAFE CRC, particularly their Construction teacher Chris, Fee Smith and our AEO Braden Lyons for all their hard work and encouragement of our students to complete the program and their projects. The final products look fantastic!

Year 12 Careers Transition Interviews:

Careers Planning and Transition interviews with all our Year 12 students have commenced this term and will continue into their final term of schooling. The purpose of these interview is to develop a Career Plan so that students can feel confident in their post school planning and seek guidance on the various pathway options open to students as they transition through the final months of Year 12 to post-school life.  If parents or carers wish to attend these interviews, please call the careers office and we can schedule a time that suits you.

University Admission Centre – Webinar for Year 12 Students – Held Wednesday 26th June:

Last week, Year 12 students had the opportunity to speak directly with the University Admission Centre (UAC) to seek guidance on how to apply for university courses. This was a very informative session, and students were able to ask questions and clarify the steps involved in this process.

Charles Sturt University & Wollongong University will both visit on 3rd July.

This week, we have both Charles Sturt University (CSU) and staff from the University of Wollongong visiting our Year 12 students. These two talks will be in the school library period 4 and period 5 this Wednesday 3rd July and will provide our Year 12 students the step-by-step guide on how to apply to both universities through their Early Entry programs.

Students will also be able to ask specific questions about all things Uni, including accommodation options, scholarships, and the many alternate pathway options available to them. I encourage all year 12 students who wish to go to university to attend this session in the school library on Wednesday 3rd July.

I wish everyone a safe and restful holiday.
