Inquisitive Minds Mathematics Day

Inquisitive  Minds Mathematics Day at CCS

Students from Years 7 and 8 were selected to attend the Inquisitive Minds Maths Day at Coolamon Central School last Tuesday 25th June. Students were immersed in mathematical and logical thinking as they learnt and utilised foundational and advanced problem-solving strategies. In the first round of problems, students worked in pairs to solve a series of problems using concrete materials. Students were able to choose the order in which they solved the puzzles and puzzles of greater difficulty were awarded with more points . Elsie and Ethan from Year 8 were successful in placing second during the first round, securing chocolate bars for a prize.

After a recess break, students were paired with someone from another school (Coolamon Central or Junee High) and were put through a fast-paced round of puzzle challenges. Again students had the choice of selecting the order in which they solved the puzzles. As always, our Year 7 and 8 students, behaved impeccably and many pairs came away with freddo frogs for successfully solving groups of puzzles, within the larger subset. Impressively, our Year 7 student, Spencer won the second round along with a Year 6 peer from CCS and they came away with a very large block of chocolate each.

Thank you to Mr Kroek for partially subsidising the cost of this excursion from the Mathematics budget, and for organising such a worthwhile academic excursion.
