Year 5 and 6

Grade 5 - Ryan Condron, Sally Dyett, Kerryn McConachy, Damon Webb, Chris Bird

Grade 6 - Al Straughan, Gill Prentice, Alison Clark, George Samothrakitis

As we head in to the colder months, a reminder to make sure all clothing is named (extra important for the Grade 6s with their nice new jumpers!). The Learning Centre regularly becomes a hub for lost property.

GRADE 5 CAMP

As we write, the Grade 5s are on the bus heading home. Details of their amazing camp will be in the next newsletter.

GRADE 6 EXCURSION

The Grade 6s had a very informative day this week when we travelled to the city to visit State Parliament and the State Library. Both visits linked to our Inquiry unit this term. We learnt about Melbourne's history at the Library (Ned Kelly's armour was a highlight) and how Victoria's government is run at Parliament House. Our classrooms have been set up like parliament, so it was good to visit the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council to put that into a real life context. Part of our tours were run by our local members, John Mullahy and Nick McGowan. The students enjoyed the opportunity to sit in the chairs of the Speaker, Premier and Opposition Leader and took part in a role play where they debated a bill to be passed.

WINTER SPORT

Parents would have received an email yesterday regarding our upcoming Winter Sport days. Students will need to have permission and payment to be able to attend. We are very lucky that every single student has the opportunity to participate in a sport, however some sports have more students trying out than we're able to have in a team. We understand the disappointment some students feel if they don't get to play their first choice sport, but at school we often talk about resilience and how we don't always get everything we want. For Grade 5 students, there is another opportunity to try that sport next year. We often find students who miss their first choice sport have a brilliant day trying another sport and learning new skills.

Wear it Yellow: Fundraising for the Children's Ground Organisation

This year VPS is excited to take part in Wear it Yellow day. On Friday the 7th of June students can wear something yellow to school to show their support for creating a bright future for First Nations Children and families. If your child is wearing free dress, they are required to bring a gold coin donation to help this cause. We look forward to seeing the students and staff all dressed up in yellow!
