Reconciliation Week

A Word from Mr Warren Smith and the Long Walk Participants

"This week is Reconciliation week and it has been an awesome week.

At Great Ryrie Primary School we have been hard at work to understand indigenous perspectives and celebrate their 65,000 year heritage. We were lucky enough to be invited to the “Long Walk” hosted by Aquinas College and saw Nova Peris. She talked to us about  Reconciliation Week and what it means to her. On top of all the exciting learning, we also got our brand new welcome sign and we hope you love it is as much as we do."

The Importance of School Uniforms

As we strive to create the best learning environment for our children, we want to highlight the importance of school uniforms in promoting a sense of equality and community within our school.

This dress code has been developed by Great Ryrie Primary School’s School Council in close consultation with our school community to ensure that it respects the rights of individual students whilst reflecting the values and interests of our community.

The Student Dress Code aims to:

• foster a sense of community and belonging and encourages students to develop pride in their appearance

• support Great Ryrie Primary School’s commitment to ensuring that our students feel equal and dressed safely and appropriately for school activities.

• reduce student competition based on clothing

• enhance the profile and identity of the school and its students within the wider community.

Outstanding Student Achievements

Ian Kang in Year 6 won the gold medal for the Australian Taekwondo Victoria competition this week on the 26th of May.

An interview with Mrs Rouda

How long have you been doing Taekwondo ?

I have been doing Taekwondo for 2 Years and I often attend three to 5 training sessions per week.

What are your training sessions all about?

One session is Belt Training.

Taekwondo uses a colored belt system to show progress and I am currently on red 3.

The other session is Patterns (Poomsae): These are movements that demonstrate  skill and technique. The last session is Sparring (Kyorugi): Controlled combat, with guards.

Why do you like doing Taekwondo?

You get to meet some really good people. It helps with self defence and it's lots of fun.

Congratulations to Ian on your outstanding achievement and we might  see you  in the Commonwealth or Olympic Games in the future.

Have a lovely weekend with your family and friends
