Principal's Message

Mrs Belinda Hall - Relieving Principal

Amazing opportunities

It was fantastic seeing students engage in the Muru Mittigar incursion at the end of last week. We thank Mrs Clements for organising an excellent learning experience for our students during Reconciliation Week. Students thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and developed a deeper understanding of our Indigenous culture. We are so privileged to have such talented teachers at our school who volunteer their time and expertise for the benefit of the students. The plethora of extracurricular opportunities would not exist if not for our amazing staff members.

Semester 1 reports

Semester 1 reports will come home on Wednesday July 3. The reports will inform you about your child’s learning and progress in all Key Learning Areas, using the NSW Department of Education prescribed scale of achievement. The Key Learning Areas include: English, Mathematics, Science & Technology, History and Geography, Personal Development Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) and Creative Arts. Last year, the K-2 reports changed slightly to align with the new syllabus. This year, the Years 3–6 reports will also reflect these changes. The following explanation will outline the main differences and how we have aimed to make the reports as parent friendly as possible. If you have any questions after receiving your child’s report, please contact your child’s teacher.

The focus areas students will be assessed are:

Oral language and Communication – previously ‘speaking and listening’

The content in this area focuses on speaking and listening. Oral language can include spoken, nonverbal, symbolic and gestural forms. Students express their skills when sharing and expressing ideas, as well as clarifying and refining their thoughts.

Reading fluency and comprehension – previously ‘reading and viewing’

Building on their phonic knowledge and vocabulary, students decode and recognise words to increase their reading fluency. This allows the reader to focus on meaning rather than decoding to increase their reading speed, rhythm, intonation and self-correcting to maintain understanding. Connecting their prior knowledge to enhance their understanding of the text is an important aspect of comprehension. This area involves students continually understanding and responding to literature.

Creating Written Texts – previously ‘writing and representing’

Creating written texts involves students planning, creating and revising pieces of writing. This aspect incorporates spelling, handwriting and elements of vocabulary.

Playground before 8.30am

We strongly encourage students to get to school well before the start of the school day at 9.00am. Students can arrive at school any time after 8.30am as we have a teacher on duty from 8.30am. Recently, we have noticed many students coming to school before 8.30am. There is no supervision before this time, therefore students should arrive later or you can contact Roselea Student Care centre on 0437 999 215 to arrange care before 8.30am.

Community Consultation

Thank you for your time consulting on the Anti-Bullying policy. The next phase of creating the School Behaviour Support and Management Plan will be focused on the care continuum, high expectations and managing student behaviour. If you are interested in attending a meeting at 9am June 13 and working in partnership to compile this document, please contact the school to indicate your interest.
