Debating Competition

Yesterday saw the commencement of Round 1 of the Armidale Diocesan Debating Competition. St Edward's hosted St Nicholas, running two debates , arguing the topic "We should ban all social networking for people under the age of 18".

In the first debate, St Edwards Team A (affirmative) consisting of  Louise Archer, Alexis Cook, Kate Seckold and Hector Vera won against St Nicholas' Team B (negative) and in the second debate St Edward's Team A (affirmative) consisting of Jimmy Press, Charlie Hague, Ivy Allan and Ruby Webster lost to St Nicholas' Team B. For all our students, it was their first time debating live against another team and we could not be more proud of their efforts in preparing and delivering their arguments. We congratulate them on their efforts and also thank Mrs Sara Irwin for her work coaching and preparing the students.

As it was also Catholic Schools Week, it was a wonderful opportunity to share a lunch together with the St Nicholas' students between debates.

Parent Learning Walk and Talk

On Wednesday, we welcomed parents into the school to join us for a learning walk and talk at both campuses to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. The parents were very impressed by the classrooms across both infants and primary campuses and they commented at how engaged the students were with their learning. One parent shared that they could not believe how much fun it looked to be in the classrooms at St Edward’s!

We thank the parents who were able to join us for this event. If you are interested in joining us for a learning walk in the future, please contact the school and we would be happy to facilitate this.
