Let’s talk reports! In particular, our Values comments. As teachers, we love writing our Values comments for each student. They provide teachers with the opportunity to celebrate students individual talents, strengths and achievements demonstrated over the semester.
In a recent Professional Learning session, we took time to review our Values data. We looked at our %’s of student achievement for each of the Super 7 on the sliding scale (see picture). After reviewing this data, it was evident that we have been providing a very high percentage of students with the highest possible grade, an ‘Excellent’. As a result, we have not been able to celebrate students who are demonstrating these skills exceptionally well.
After exploring this data, we delved deep and consulted on what makes an ‘Excellent’, ‘Very Good’, ‘Satisfactory’ and ‘Needs Attention’ for each of our school values: Best Effort, Resilience, Safety, Risk Taking, Respect & Tolerance, Organisation, Bucket Filling.
As a result, we have not been able to in us not celebrate students who are demonstrating these skills exceptionally well. With this in mind, we have made some tweaks to what constitutes an: ‘Excellent’, ‘Very Good’, ‘Satisfactory’ and ‘Needs Attention’. See the table below for elaboration:
Scale | Demonstrated % of time |
Excellent | 95%> |
Very Good | 80-94% |
Satisfactory | 65-79% |
Needs Attention | <64% |
You may notice some difference in your child’s grading for the Super 7 Values, with students receiving less ‘excellent’ and more ‘very good’, which is still a very high achievement and to be acknowledged and celebrated at home. We hope this adds any clarity to student reports. If you have you have any questions regarding reports and evaluations, please note down your queries and bring them along to ‘Parent-Teacher Interviews’ in week 2 of Term 3.
Last week, April from Bully Zero presented two sessions to students across all year levels. Students were engaged in both sessions, asking many questions and being active listeners.
Also included is our Bully Prevention Policy.
Later in the year we will be holding a Superhero dress-up day as part of National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.
