The cold winter weather is upon us, yet that can't halt us here at Ceres. It has been yet another exciting fortnight jam packed with activities for our students. One of the highlights was our Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony held as part of our school's acknowledgement of Reconciliation Week. This was a fantastic ceremony and our appreciation goes to Mrs Vranken, our Cultural Studies teacher for organising the event and our school leaders for creating an outstanding Acknowledgement that will be used at each assembly for the remainder of the year.
Mr Beaton organised an insightful incursion delivered by Bully Zero who helped us
understand what bullying is compared to teasing and the different types of bullying and its impact on young people. We were also taught a variety of strategies to help assess and respond to bullying situations, while also identifying and understanding the role of bystanders.
I also attended our SSA Football and Netball last week and was, once again, left feeling so proud of our student behaviour and effort throughout the day, well done 5/6s!
Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held in Week 2 of term 3 on Wednesday, July 24th.
School on this day will conclude at 1 pm with interview times available for parents between 1pm - 4:20pm.
Lunch play on this day for the students will operate between 12:10pm-1pm.
Compass bookings will be made live next Tuesday, June 11th. Please have Compass notifications turned on so that you are informed immediately.
Please make the necessary arrangements for your child/ren to be picked up at 1 pm on Wednesday, July 24th.
Conveniently, Kelly Club will start their session earlier on this day too. Please book directly with Kelly Club should you require this service.
As part of our upcoming school review in the first week of Term 3, there is an opportunity for parents to participate in a parents only forum facilitated by our reviewer, Julie Myers. This is a forum where you, the parents, can express your views about the feel of our school, your connection to the school and your child's learning etc.
If you are keen to participate, the forum will take place in the first week of Term 3 on Wednesday, July 17th from 2:30-3pm. Please express interest with Claire in the office.
Our yard improvements are continuing with the new screen around the septic beginning this week. Some much needed fragrant plants will added to this area in good time. Some new doors will be added to the back of the STEM and Art rooms in the coming weeks also. Another area receiving a transformation this term is the Fairy Garden.
Chelsea, our 2/3BR ES member, has reached out to Bunnings Waurn Ponds and they are kindly donating a whole range of materials to makeover this space. Thanks, Chelsea, we can't wait to see the final results.
Our growing petition of sorts (see below) on CoGG's 'Have Your Say' forum is still open until the 18th of June.
Please feel free to visit the page (link here). A huge thanks to those who have contributed, the responses and sheer weight of support has been fantastic. There are no guarantees, however, by raising the issue further with the council we hopefully will capture someone's attention.
If you have a sibling of a current student needing enrolment next year we ask that this be submitted as soon as possible to give us a clear indication of potential numbers for 2025.
If you know anyone looking to enroll at Ceres, please ask them to book a tour or pick up an expression of interest pack.
Our newsletter is private to our school community and is not shared on our website or on social media. However, you may want to have a grandparent or other family member be able to receive our newsletter. If you do, you can subscribe to our newsletter with the link below and then when the newsletter is published it will go to them. You can also subscribe if you would like to receive the newsletter directly into your email instead of via Compass.
Reminder: Our student led Assembly is on today at 2:30 pm.
Our assembly is an important part of our school. It is an opportunity to proactively reinforce our school culture and expectations through the acknowledgement and celebration of our students and school.
Have a great fortnight.
Tim Callaghan
