Senior Years Update

Dear students and families of the Senior School,

It is amazing how fast the year goes by as we’re already speeding towards the end of Term 2. Unit 1 and Unit 3 subjects are now nearing their completion and the Senior Sub-school team have been continually impressed by the work ethic of the senior cohort. We would like to congratulate all students on their good work.

Please read through the Senior School updates to stay up to date with what is happening over the rest of the term.

Destress Day

On Tuesday, May 28th we invite all senior students to take part in our Destress Day. This day has been organised by the Senior Sub-School and captains to provide students a break and an opportunity to have some fun together. There will be food trucks on site serving Tacos and Burgers, as well as activities planned throughout Connect and Enrichment for students to take part in. More on this event can be found in the next article.

Connect

Preparations for exams and other events below will be addressed during Connect classes over the rest of Term 2. Connect is a key part of our school curriculum and much of the important information and key details about upcoming events will be distributed via the Connect program.

Year 11

Subject Changes

On Friday, May 24th we will open up request for subject changes. This allows students to ask for changes to their timetable for Unit 2. Students are able to request changes from the 24th-31st of May, after which we will need to close requests in order to process these changes. Changes will appear on compass starting Week 9. Please note students who are changing subjects are still expected to sit exams.

Examination expectations and reminders

Unit 1 exams take place from June 3rd-7th. These exams should already appear on students compass profiles. There are three exam sessions on each day and the timetable has been constructed to create as few clashes as possible, and to ensure that you can receive feedback in a timely manner.

Having received your schedule, you should be considering your revision plans for the next three weeks. Good study habits in the lead up to the exams, to ensure that you are not relying on cramming techniques, will be necessary. For some students, there will be three scheduled exam sessions on one day. If this is the case, please come talk to the Senior Sub-School who can organise to resit one of those exams at a different time.

Students are expected to be at school to complete their exams, however all other classes have been cancelled. Students are encouraged to attend their Year 12 classes if they do not clash with exams, however if they need to prepare for their exams they may do so.

You will not be allowed to leave the examination room prior to the end of the examination. It is expected that all students will make full use of the available time to improve your responses.

If students are at school during the exam period when they do not have a scheduled exam, they should be studying in the library or A-block. If students are at school, they are expected to be in full school uniform.

If students are absent for an exam due to an illness, please contact the Senior Sub-School. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to reschedule these exams during the exam period.

Year 12 Subject Selection

We’re starting to think about students subject selections for their final year of school in 2025. This process will start with the Course Expo on May 29th and will continue with all selections completed by July 26th (Week 2, Term 3). For most students in Year 11, they will choose 5 subjects that they are currently undertaking. If students are changing their subjects, it is important that they talk to the subject teachers prior to submitting their selections on EDVAL.

GAT

Tuesday June 18th is a pupil free day to support the students completing the GAT. All students undertaking a Unit 3/4 subject must complete the GAT. Further information will be distributed through Teams for students who must complete the GAT.

Year 12

GAT

All students doing a Unit 3/4 subject must complete the GAT on Tuesday June 18th. Further information in regards to the GAT will be distributed as the date approaches. This is an important examination which can come to use at the end of the year. Please arrive at school at 8:30 on the day of the GAT, and all students will be released from their class from 3:00pm.

Pathways Planning

There are many opportunities for students over the course of the Term 3 holidays for students to explore their pathways in 2025. Booma posts weekly Careers updates and will also post an update for students in the lead up to the June/ July Holidays. It’s important to note that this is an opportunity for students to visit the campuses of tertiary education providers.
