Talkfest and Movie Night : Tickets on sale

Friends of Northcote: Movie Night

Friends of Northcote invite our parent community to our Movie Night at Westgarth Cinema at 8:00pm on Thursday 30 May.

Book your tickets here as there are no door sales on the night. Ticket sales will close on Monday 27 May in order to confirm final numbers with the cinema.

This year’s film is Radical. Winner of the Sundance Film Favourite Award, RADICAL is based on the true story of an inspiring educator who refused to let his students be defined by their circumstances. In a Mexican border town plagued by neglect, corruption, and violence, a frustrated teacher (Eugenio Derbez, CODA) tries a radical new approach to break through his students’ apathy and unlock their curiosity, their potential… and maybe even their genius. You can check out the trailer here.

It will be great night, drinks will be available for purchase from the bar and it’s a good opportunity to meet other families at the school before we move into the film viewing.

The proceeds from the night will go to our Thrive fund. This comprises our Empower fund which helps students in need, our Build fund which enhances our school buildings, our Inspire fund that supports all Library activities, and our Innovate fund which funds student-led groups and projects.

Friends of Northcote: Talkfest 2024

Friends of Northcote are excited to announce details for our second event of Term 2, the annual Writers’ Talkfest. The theme of 2024 is Writing Environment. This event will take place on Thursday 20 June from 7pm-9pm in the Performing Arts Theatre onsite at Northcote High School.

We anticipate this will be a sell-out event and encourage you to gather some friends and purchase tickets quickly. Tickets can be purchased via Compass Tix here. Tickets are $30 (if you can afford it) with a $20 financial pressure option. There will be drinks available for sale, an auction and a book signing by our authors, Alice Robinson, Harry Saddler and Jeanine Leane. The event will be hosted by Ruth Clare. Further information about our incredible panel can be found on the CompassTix event page. All money raised from the evening goes towards our Northcote High School Thrive Fund

The theme for 2024 is Writing Environment. From novels about environmental collapse, and poetry that sings with landscape, to non-fiction works about bushfire, birds and the Yarra, TalkFest 2024 is exploring writing about nature, the environment and Country. Climate change, environmental degradation and species decline are front and centre in the news and our lives, but how to centre them in writing? Three writers of varying genres talk to us about the impact the natural world has on their writing, and what impact they are trying to make with their work. They’ll discuss how landscape can shape words, and how writing can make sense of the anxiety about our world, acting as both catharsis and truth-telling. Hear also about the role of activism in the arts, and the beautiful place where poetry and politics converge.
