Mentally Healthy School

Marangaroo Primary School is now a Mentally Healthy School

As of May 2024, Marangaroo Primary School has signed up to become a part of the Mentally Healthy Schools program to promote the Act Belong Commit ethos throughout our whole school community. At Marangaroo Primary School we believe that student and staff mental health and wellbeing are one of our biggest priorities, and that to work to the best of our ability, we need to keep mentally healthy.

Act Belong Commit is a mental health promotion campaign that encourages everyone to take action to protect and promote their own mental wellbeing. Being active, having a sense of belonging and having a purpose in life all contribute to happiness and good mental health. At Marangaroo Primary School there are many opportunities for our students to act, belong and commit, and we hope to promote and develop these events and activities throughout the year. Each newsletter will also focus on a few of the events and activities we are doing within the school, including our clubs during and before school (Choir, STEM, Pokemon Club, S.T.A.R.S, Kids Who Care, Sisterhood, Running Club).

Here are just some of our event highlights so far for Term 2:

Friday Flash Mob – Friday May 17th

We would like to say a huge thank to Ms Henriques and Ms Omar for initiating, coordinating and leading our first Friday Flash Mob Fun as a surprise for our students at lunchtime! Thank you to Mr Bagnall and Mr Tomlinson for their technical support in making this happen. Mrs Ward and her Magpies class assembly helped inspire the selection of the Nutbush dance. A big shout out to our admin team, teachers and EAs for volunteering to participate and the wonderful students who came out in support and joined in.

Community garden consultation - Thursday May 16th

Ms Watkin and Mrs Rogers would like to say a big thank you to all of the parent, carers, caregivers and students who attended our community garden consultation to design a community garden space that is inclusive of our whole school community. We appreciate the contribution of creative design ideas, resources knowledge, skills and experiences that everyone provided. We hope to be able to show the developed designs shortly from this collaboration. A special shout out and thank you to our Canteen Manager Lynda for volunteering her time and skills to provide delicious food and drink for us.

National Walk Safely to School Day – Friday May 10th

Thank you to all of the students, parents and staff for supporting National Walk Safely to School Day. A special shout out to Ms Henriques and Mr Lee for coordinating this event with the amazing help of student councillors and faction captains. It was great to see so many students enthusiastic to walk, ride, scooter, park then walk or move in their own way safely to school or within school. Students were so enthusiastic for the event we had a few students do a few more laps to get more stickers! Now in its 25th year, National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual event when all Primary School children will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment

ANZAC Day Service- Wednesday 23rd April

Thank you to Mrs Rogers, staff, students and the volunteer helpers for putting this wonderful event together and for our community’s participation in it.

We will provide more details of events coming up soon so please stay tuned.

National Volunteer Week – Something for Everyone May 20th-26th

As it is volunteer week this week, we would also like to take the opportunity to thank parents, carers and caregivers for getting involved in some way within the school that helps boost wellbeing. Some of these activities can include being a parent volunteer, sitting on our P&C committee, covering new books in the library, getting involved in the community garden and many more to come.

We hope by promoting the Act Belong Commit message around the school, it not only educates young people about what they can do to improve mental health and wellbeing, but also encourages them to participate in all the activities that are on offer to be active, join in activities, events, groups, and do good things for others.
