Senior Football

The third and final game of the Premier League was an absolute nail biter!

The senior boys took on SEDA down at Vic Park in front of a home crowd. SEDA came out of the blocks very well, scoring the first two goals of the game and controlled the play by keeping the ball in their half for the majority of the first quarter.

Our boys responded very well in the second, with Jed Dargan hitting the scoreboard early to get us within a goal. With Mitch Bell dominating out of the centre and Solly Fleming leading well down back, we were able to get back in the game.

The third saw a relatively even contest with both teams hitting the scoreboard a few times each. Tom Naujok through the midfield and Cody Mann in the ruck led the way through this quarter.

The last quarter saw our boys lift again to get back within a goal through Jessie Johnstone and Hudson Kellett, however unfortunately the SEDA boys proved too strong and held on by 4 points to win the game.

SEDA: 7.10.52

SJC: 7.6.48

Best Players: Mitch Bell, Cody Mann, Tom Naujok and Jessie Johnstone.

We'd like to congratulate all the boys who played across the three games for giving it their best and representign the school in such a fantastic manner.

Thanks to Mr McNicol and Mr Carnie for all their work with this group in 2024, next season we hope to have an even better showing in the premier league and advance to a final.

Campaspe Intermediate Boys AFL

Our Inter Boys AFL team had a great day out at the Campaspe competition in Rochester on Tuesday.

First up, we faced a hard-fought battle with local rivals Echuca College. The boys braved the cold and slippery conditions to get on top and run away with the game. Final scores: SJC 10.4.64 defeated Echuca College 0.0.0. Max McCarty filled his boots with 6 majors, Dane Dickinson added 2, and Bodhi Teasdale-Dohnt and Dhara Canham added 1 each. Max McCarty, Liam Beasley, and Bodhi Teasdale-Dohnt were our major contributors.

Playing back-to-back games, we continued our good form, defeating Rochester Secondary College 7.6.48 to 0.0.0. Max added to his impressive goal tally with 2 majors, Tom Naujok pulled the boots on and led from the front, contributing 2 goals in a best-on-ground display, while Easton Carlile, Hugo Monnich Vo, and Jake Coghlan also contributed on the scoreboard. Nic Mitchell, Jett Kervin, and Dhara Canham rounded out the best.

After a short break, the boys continued on their merry way, knocking off St Augs 8.4.51 to 0.1.1. Jake Barden mopped up at the back, preventing any attack from St Augs. Bohdi continued his excellent form, while Jake Coghlan also found plenty of the footy. Dane hit the scoreboard again with 2 majors, while Axel Dixon went from one end to the other, allowing him to slot a major. Will Brennan, James Brentnall, Liam Beasley, Hugo, and Bohdi added to the scorecard.

The coaches moved the magnets around in game 4 against Ky P-12; however, the depth of this squad was on full display. Mitch Sutton was by far BOG, owning the far side of Moon Oval and putting through 2 big ones. Max and Easton impersonated Buddy and Cyril as they snagged 2 majors each, while the ultimate celebrator Harrison Keele converted truly. Jake Barden and Axel Dixon continued their strong form to help us defeat Ky 7.3.45 to 0.0.0.

Two unbeaten sides ran out for the final game of the day in what was going to be the decider for ultimate glory. It was a tough, contested battle; however, the class of Tom Naujok, Bohdi and Jake Coghlan rose to the top, leading a charge for St Joes. A left-foot snap on goal from Tom swung momentum well in our favour before a late fightback from SMOTA was halted as Max McCarty clunked one from the clouds to convert truly for his second goal, sealing victory for St Joes!

Final scores: SJC 3.2.20 defeated SMOTA 1.1.7.

Thanks to Mr Coates and Mr Carnie for coaching the boys on the day. We wish the boys all the best as they progress to the LMR on July 31.

Senior Boys

In an impressive display of skill and determination, the senior boys triumphed in all four of their matches, securing victories against Rochester, Echuca College, Kyabram, and SMOTA. Despite a slow start, the team showed remarkable improvement throughout the day, culminating in a series of dominant performances.

The first game against Rochester saw the boys finding their footing. Although they began cautiously, their perseverance paid off, leading to a well-earned victory.

Building on their initial win, the team approached the second match against Echuca College with increased confidence. Their improved coordination and strategic play resulted in another triumph.

By the third game against Kyabram, the boys were in full stride. Their cohesive play and tactical execution were on full display, overpowering their opponents and securing a decisive win.

Saving their best for last, the boys delivered an outstanding performance against SMOTA. Dominating from start to finish, they capped off the day with a resounding victory.

The entire team played exceptionally well, with each member stepping up when needed. Their ability to adapt and enhance their performance throughout the day was a key factor in their success. The coaches and supporters were thrilled with the team's achievements and are looking forward to seeing how they build on this momentum in future competitions.

This clean sweep is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the senior boys. Their success is not only a reflection of their individual talents but also of their collective effort and team spirit. Congratulations to the senior boys on a fantastic day of sportsmanship and excellence!
