Hands on Learning

Our Hands on Learning Cafe team has continued this term to deliver delicious meals to our staff customers, improving their food preparation techniques and developing impressive hospitality service skills. Some of our recent popular dishes have been -  san choy bow, beef and veggie pasties, chocolate brownie, scones, Thai pumpkin soup with focaccia and pizzas cooked in our purpose-built wood fired oven. The HoL Cafe students work incredibly hard and are to be commended on their incredible teamwork, receiving positive feedback each week.

Well done on your success!

Culture Shock Excursion to Monkee & Co

The Year 9 Culture Shock class were immersed into the delightful restaurant of Monkee & Co last week. Students have been learning about International cuisines and Asian food and culture has been on top of the list! Students listened intently to Anna as she described her love and passion for Asian food. Other points of interest included food preparation and service, sourcing market fresh ingredients, catering for dietary requirements and creating a menu. Students were appreciative of the sample tastings and valuable insights into Anna’s career as a chef.

This class has also just recently completed their design brief assessments where they selected an Asian style noodle dish to cook for themselves and a partner. We had a brilliant array of dishes including Ramen soups, Singapore noodles, fried rice, pad thai, with some students even creating their own recipes from scratch. This assessment saw students develop skills in food ordering, planning, styling and presenting, with of course the best part....tasting and enjoying their wonderful creations! We are very proud of the teamwork and commitment they have demonstrated in this class.

Well done Year 9 Culture Shock!
