PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Year 11 Students Tackle Semester One Exams:
This week, Year 11 students at Kerang Technical High School completed their
end-of-semester examinations.
The assessment period allowed students to consolidate and demonstrate their understanding of the content covered during Semester One.
Exams were conducted across a range of subjects, including English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. Students approached the period with focus and consistency, and the process has provided valuable experience in preparation for the demands of Year 12.
The exam period also served as an opportunity for students to further develop effective study routines and independent learning skills.
As Semester One concludes, students are encouraged to review their performance, identify areas for improvement, and continue applying themselves as they progress through their senior studies.
Year 11 and 12 Students Gain RSA Certification:
Senior students at KTHS have recently had the valuable opportunity to complete their Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) certification. This nationally recognised training equips students with the knowledge and skills to legally and responsibly serve alcohol in licensed venues across Victoria.
By gaining their RSA, our Year 11 and 12 students are now well-prepared to take on roles in the hospitality industry, increasing their employability and giving them a competitive edge when applying for part-time or casual work. The certification not only provides a practical advantage but also helps students build confidence and develop a sense of responsibility in workplace environments.
This initiative is another example of how KTHS supports students with real-world learning opportunities that set them up for success beyond the classroom. Well done to all students who completed the training and are now ready to take their first steps into the workforce.
Youth Take Over Empowers KTHS Students to Step Into the Workforce:
As part of the Groundwork for Growth | Empowering Young People to Thrive initiative, 11 students from Kerang Technical High School (KTHS) have embarked on an exciting journey through the Youth Take Over program. This dynamic 9-week course is designed to build skills, boost confidence, and create career opportunities for young people by connecting them directly with local industry.
In collaboration with Nutrien Ag Solutions, the student interns will respond to a real-world industry brief that involves developing job profiles and creating a full-scale social media campaign for the Kerang branch of the business. Throughout the program, students will work closely with industry mentors from Nutrien Ag Solutions, gaining invaluable insights into the agricultural sector—one of the region's most important industries.
The interns will spend time onsite at the Kerang branch, learning about career pathways and the skill sets required across different roles. They will develop and present job profiles that highlight employment opportunities in agriculture, particularly those relevant to local contexts. Alongside this, students will design a social media calendar, produce a newsletter, and contribute to the promotion of the Dolly’s Dream event, demonstrating how digital tools can enhance community engagement and business visibility.
As part of their communications work, interns will also utilise data from the branch’s weather station, integrating this information into their newsletter and online content to keep customers informed of local conditions—an essential service in the agricultural industry.
The course is co-facilitated by Michelle Sutcliffe from KTHS, alongside Mikayla Zanker (Projects Officer) and Kerryn Zanker (School to Work Coordinator).
Their combined expertise ensures that students are not only guided through the technical aspects of the project but are also supported in developing critical workplace and communication skills.
Youth Take Over addresses a key challenge in the Gannawarra Shire—the difficulty many young people face in transitioning from education to employment. Through these short-term, hands-on programs, participants are empowered to 'take over' a real workplace environment, build connections, and gain experience that will strengthen their future job applications.
At the end of the program, on Tuesday, 24th June, students will present the outcomes of their project at a launch event hosted at Nutrien Ag Solutions, Kerang. This event will celebrate their achievements and showcase the creative and professional work they’ve produced.
Kerang Technical High School is proud to be part of a program that not only supports student learning but actively helps shape futures. Through partnerships like this, our students are empowered to thrive—today, tomorrow, and beyond.
