Year 8 Students Explore Future Careers at VET Discovery Expo
Thursday 29 May – Broadmeadows Town Hall
On Thursday 29 May, a group of enthusiastic Year 8 students attended the VET Discovery Expo at Broadmeadows Town Hall, hosted by Hume Whittlesea LLEN. Students who opted in to the event were treated to an exciting and interactive day filled with hands-on experiences across a wide range of vocational industries.
The expo showcased a variety of training pathways and practical career options, allowing students to explore what Vocational Education and Training (VET) is all about. From hospitality to construction, beauty to health services, students engaged with stallholders through hands-on activities and demonstrations, gaining real insight into possible future pathways.
The event was a valuable opportunity for students to begin thinking about their future education and careers, and they had a fantastic time diving into new industries and discovering what might spark their interest. A big thank you to the organisers and stallholders who made the day so engaging and informative!
Year 10 Parent Information Session – Supporting Informed Pathways
Thursday 3rd July
On Thursday 3rd July, we welcomed families to our Year 10 Parent Information Session, an important event designed to support students and their families as they begin planning for the senior years of secondary school and selecting Year 10 subjects.
The evening provided valuable insights into subject selection processes, VCE and VCE VM pathways, and the various post-school opportunities available to students.
Presentations from subject domain leaders, as well as our Careers and Pathways Leader, helped families understand how subjects align with future goals and interests.
We also introduced the use of the Career Clusters from Study Work Grow, a tool we use at Mickleham Secondary College to support students in identifying their strengths and exploring careers that align with their values, skills and preferences. These clusters help demystify the world of work and encourage students to think more broadly about their future.
It was a fantastic opportunity for parents, guardians and students to ask questions, connect with staff, and gain clarity around the decision-making process ahead. We’d like to thank all families who attended and the staff who contributed to the success of the evening. Your involvement plays a key role in helping students make confident, informed choices as they step into the next phase of their education.
If you were unable to attend, you can access the presentation by visiting our school website at www.micklehamsc.vic.edu.au. Click on the ‘Pathways’ tab and select ‘Year 10 Subjects’ to find all relevant information and resources. Additionally, please find a copy of the presentation below.

Year 9 Morrisby Interviews – Exploring Strengths and Future Pathways
Monday 23rd to Friday 27th June
This week, our Year 9 students participated in their one-on-one Morrisby interviews—a key step in their career exploration journey.
Following the completion of their Morrisby career profiling earlier in the term, students had the opportunity to sit down with an external career practitioner to discuss their individual results. These conversations focused on each student’s strengths, interests, and potential career pathways, helping them to better understand how their skills and preferences can align with future subject choices and career options.
The Morrisby program is a valuable part of our broader approach to career education at Mickleham Secondary College. It empowers students to make informed decisions about their future, starting with subject selection in Year 10 and beyond. It also provides families and staff with a clearer picture of how to support students as they begin to think about their goals and aspirations.
We are proud of the thoughtful and engaged way our Year 9s approached their interviews and look forward to continuing the conversation as they move into senior secondary planning.
