Year 7 Netball Teams
On Friday, two teams represented the college at the Mickleham Division Year 7 Netball Finals. Both teams had worked hard in the lead up, training frequently with their coaches Elise K and Crystle H.
Despite some fierce competition, the Girls team were highly competitive and grew in confidence in each match. It was fantastic to see the team gel together and refine their ball movement, scaring many of their opposition.
On the Mixed side of the draw, the team started with a close win, followed by two more comfortable results, before facing Kyneton HS in their final match- with the winner to finish on top and progress to NMR Finals. It was a close match, with our boys down by a goal at half-time. With some swift changes by coach Crystle, and a renewed tenacity, the boys rallied in the second half to emerge winners by 4 goals and win the Division Finals. Well done team! They will now progress to the NMR Finals in Term 3.
Thanks to Elise K and Crystle H for their time and dedication in coaching the Year 7 Netball teams.
Mickleham Division Girls AFL Finals
A very enthusiastic and dedicated group of girls headed out to Sunbury for the SSV Mickleham Division Girls AFL Finals. Our junior team, comprised of Year 7 & 8 students, had been training well after-school over the last month, and had shown fantastic development across these sessions.
With Kiarah A and Taleea B as our co-captains, our first game was a hard fought competitive contest against Edgars Creek SC. While we had our fair share of opportunities, we weren't able to capitalise on these, and this saw Edgars Creek SC take a win.
In our second and final pool game, we faced our 'frenemies' from Hume Anglican Grammar Donnybrook. Our girls worked hard to fix the errors in ball movement from Game 1, and ran the ball with great pace to hit the scoreboard frequently and take a convincing win. Well done girls! This marks only the 2nd win in AFL for our college, so you should be very proud! It was pleasing to see all players give their best, and gel as a cohesive team. Your coaches, Mr. Saw, Mr. Kavadas and Mr. Perez look forward to working with you again next year!
Year 8 Football (Soccer) & Football AFL
Last week, three Year 8 teams represented the college in Boys/Mixed and Girls Football (Soccer) and Boys/Mixed Australian Football/AFL. While the weather was temperamental throughout the day, the enthusiasm and spirit of our students certainly wasn’t!
The football (soccer) teams, led by coaches Miss Karla and Miss Ces, and captains Jov and Mirna, were very competitive throughout the day, winning a share of their pool matches to both finish mid-table. The highlights were the girls getting a 2-0 win over Mt. Ridley College, and the boys defeating Wallan SC 2-0, after a string of very competitive 1-0 results against some very strong schools. All reports were glowing of not only the way in which our students played, but their embodiment of our school values. Well done!
Over at Roxburgh Park, our combined Year 7 and 8 Boys AFL team faced a tough day, competing against straight Year 8 teams from the other schools in very wet and boggy conditions. Led by coaches Mr. Saw and Mr. Kavadas, and captain Xzavier, the team were simply outstanding, earning a very big win over Hume Anglican Donnybrook to deliver the college’s first win in Boys AFL! It was a great display of teamwork and skill in such trying conditions. In their 2nd game, they faced the might of Kyneton SC, and while only down by a goal at halftime, were beaten in a very spirited showing.
Well done to all Year 8’s (and the Year 7’s that were part of the AFL team) for a great day!
Region Cross Country
Last Wednesday, 7 students represented the college at the SSV Northern Metro Region Cross Country Championships in Kilmore. It was a very chilly, but clear day, which was perfect for running! All students competed well, and were outstanding role models for our college- they should all be very proud!
Notable performances included Gunveer S finishing 15th and Avinoor B finishing 22nd in the Boys 15, and Angel K finishing 33rd in the Girls 15, which both had large fields.
The best result of the day was Moey A (pictured middle), who finished 12th in the Boys 12/13 Secondary event, and will progress to the SSV Cross Country State Championships, to be held in Term 3. Moey also becomes the first student from the college to qualify for an individual state championship- well done Moey! What an outstanding achievement!
Year 7 & 8 Badminton Division Finals
Last Friday, 4 teams of students represented the college at the Division Year 7 & 8 Badminton Finals. Badminton is one of the most popular sports at MSC, so the students were selected had certainly earned their place.
All teams were outstanding role models for our college, and were commended by other schools as to how well they displayed not only our school ARCH values, but on their sportspersonship, fair play and connection amongst our teams.
The Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls and Year 8 Boys were very competitive, each winning a tie or two against their opposition.
Our standout team were our Year 8 Girls, who swept their pool in convincing fashion to meet Elevation SC in the final. After a very tense round of doubles, our Year 8 Girls were just pipped, going down on points with the final score 3-3 (51-43) in Elevation SC's favour. Well done to the Year 8 Girls who took this in their stride, and immediately congratulated the opposition on their victory. Well done to all teams, Miss Casey and Perez couldn't be prouder of you all!
