NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM

As we hit the endpoint of the term, the Mickleham Secondary College Principal Team is incredibly proud to share the vibrant energy and dedicated efforts buzzing throughout our school community. It's been a period packed with significant academic milestones, enriching student experiences, and valuable community engagement.
Academic Growth and Future Pathways
Our commitment to fostering academic excellence and preparing students for their futures has been at the forefront this term. Our Year 9s recently completed their exams, showing fantastic engagement with the process, which is a great start to an important aspect of their program. We also held crucial Subject Selection information sessions for Year 9 families. These sessions, expertly coordinated by Sarah Blenkiron and our dedicated Domain Leaders, are vital in guiding our students toward their senior years and beyond. We're particularly excited to see our Careers program flourishing, with the Year 8 VET Discovery Expo excursion being a prime example of students actively exploring their skills and interests for the future.
Beyond the classroom, our students have been immersed in a range of enriching activities designed to broaden their horizons. Our Year 9’s have had quite a busy term this term with the completion of their Morrisby reports. These reports will be used to council students on their subject selections for next year in Morrisby Interviews early in Term 3, promising unique learning opportunities and crucial career guidance.
Sporting Triumphs and College Values
Our students have truly excelled on the sporting fields this term, showcasing not only their athletic prowess but also our college's core values.
We were incredibly proud to see four teams represent Mickleham Secondary College at the Division Year 7 & 8 Badminton Finals. All teams were outstanding role models, earning commendation from other schools for their display of our ARCH values, sportsmanship, and fair play. Our Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls, and Year 8 Boys were highly competitive. A special congratulations goes to our Year 8 Girls team, who were just pipped at the post in a thrilling final, demonstrating incredible resilience and grace in defeat.
Our students also shone at the SSV Northern Metro Region Cross Country Championships. All seven of our student representatives competed exceptionally well. A huge congratulations to Moey A, who finished an incredible 12th in the Boys 12/13 Secondary event. This outstanding performance means Moey will now progress to the SSV Cross Country State Championships in Term 3, becoming the first student from our college to qualify for an individual state championship! What an amazing accomplishment, Moey!
Enriching Experiences
Our Year 8 Japanese excursion was a huge success, students participated in a Japanese movie at Cinema Nova in Lygon Street and then had the opportunity to eat a traditional Japanese bento box lunch using chopsticks. The event was a resounding success and brought smiles to many faces and expanded cultural horizons.
This term, our Year 9 students successfully completed their highly anticipated City Experience, a program designed to explore Melbourne through discovery and learning. Students travelled by train into the city each day, where they participated in either an "Amazing Race" exploring various city landmarks like the Arts Centre, Eureka Tower, and Hosier Lane, or a "Sports Museum" tour including a guided visit to the MCG. This immersive experience provided invaluable opportunities for our students to develop critical thinking, observation skills, and teamwork as they navigated the city and completed activities in their booklets. They gained autonomy in managing their lunch while demonstrating excellent responsibility by staying with their assigned teachers and groups for all activities. Our students represented Mickleham Secondary College with pride, adhering to full school uniform and demonstrating respectful engagement with the public and landmarks. The City Experience was a fantastic success, laying a strong foundation for their future camps and excursions. A massive thankyou and congratulations should go out to our Y9 Coordinators Karla Simiane and Raymond Saw for their coordination and organisation of the event.
A reminder that Monday the 21st of July is a student free day for Mickleham Secondary College. Students in Year 7 and 8 return on Tuesday the 22nd of July. Our year 9 students return on Tuesday the 22nd of July just for their individual subject selection interviews with a resumption of scheduled classes on Wednesday the 23rd of July.
The energy and commitment shown by everyone at Mickleham Secondary College continue to make our school a remarkable place to learn and grow. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in your child's education. We look forward to another productive period ahead!
