School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

We are getting very, very close to a Whole School Celebration Day, with space for only 8 Birds left on our Celebration Tree! Please ask your children how they could show some extra Ambition, Creativity, Courage and Compassion this week, so we can get our Tree full of Birds by next week!

Our next Celebration Day will be supported financially by TheirCare, who have kindly offered to contribute $400 to our students. Thanks TheirCare!

Rich Learning Tasks!

This week I had the pleasure of spending some time in 5/6A’s classroom while they were working on their Procedural Writing. The students were busy crafting clear and detailed instructions for building their very own LEGO creations — and the focus, creativity, and collaboration on display were fantastic! It was wonderful to see students engaging in such a rich learning task, thinking carefully about sequencing, clarity, and precision in their writing, all while sharing their unique designs. Among the imaginative creations were a LEGO sandwich, a computer mouse, a cupcake, a dragon, and even a café seat. I was particularly impressed by how they balanced technical accuracy with the fun of building something imaginative — a true blend of literacy and hands-on learning!

Principal Conference

Last week, Yasmin and I had the pleasure of attending the Riversdale Network Principal Conference, held over Thursday and Friday. It was a fantastic two days of learning, connection and reflection, with a range of inspiring speakers who are leaders in the field of education and school improvement.

One of the most valuable parts of the experience was the chance to collaborate with fellow principals from our local area. Being relatively new to the network, I really appreciate these opportunities to strengthen relationships, share ideas, and work together to support our students and staff across schools. There’s something powerful about coming together around a shared commitment to making our schools the best they can be.

Throughout the conference, a few key messages stood out – particularly around the importance of leading change with purpose, always striving for improvement, and making sure student voice is central to our work. At Box Hill North Primary School and Kindergarten, our students are at the heart of everything we do. With our Years 4–6 students recently completing the Student Attitudes to School Survey, I’m reminded again of how valuable it is to hear directly from our learners – their insights help shape our priorities and guide our next steps.

Would you like to join a Box Hill North School Council Sub Committee?

We are calling on people within our community to join our 2025 School Council Sub-Committees. At Box Hill North we have Sub-Committees in order to assist the work of School Council by exploring key strategic issues in more detail than is possible at a School Council meeting. These Sub-Committees provide opportunities to involve and utilise the expertise and experiences of members of the school community (and wider community) who are not members of school council.

There are four sub-committees at Box Hill North:

  • Education Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Buildings & Grounds Committee
  • Events Committee (previously the Parents Association)

Education Committee

This group of parents and teachers manage the process of creating and reviewing policies which guide the work of the school and respond to government requirements and initiatives. Education committee provides a means of informing the school community about the schools approach and structure to teaching and learning.

Finance Committee

This committee oversees the management of school finances and ensures there is good governance and responsible administration of the financial resources of the school. This committee organises the operational budget of the school, monitors revenue and expenditure and manages the resources available via government funding, parent contributions, grants, fundraising and school operations such as Their Care and Canteen.

Buildings and Grounds Committee

This group of volunteers manages maintenance of buildings and grounds works. It manages a prioritised jobs list of works and projects aimed at maintaining a safe, enjoyable and pleasing environment for children and families. The organisation of working bees is a major function along with coordinating the assistance of volunteers in support of garden work and maintenance and repair works.

Events Committee

The Events Team supports the life of the school by organising fundraising and social events. The Events Team supports the ongoing work of improving the school experience of children and families through fundraising activities. The team also provides the school community with opportunities to meet socially and enjoy the company of other parents.

Please complete the below form to express your interest in one or more of these School Council Sub-Committees. If you have any questions, feel free to chat to Anna or Ainslie.

Semester One Reports

It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching the end of Term 2! Over the coming weeks, our teachers will be finalising Semester 1 reports, which will be available to families via Compass in the final week of term. These reports offer a snapshot of your child’s learning so far this year – highlighting their progress, strengths, and areas for growth across a range of learning areas.

At Box Hill North Primary School and Kindergarten, we know that every child’s learning journey is different. While academic achievement is important, we also place great value on effort, curiosity, and persistence – the qualities that help our students become confident, capable learners. Reports are a great chance to pause and reflect on how far each student has come, and to celebrate their hard work and personal growth.

In the final week of term, we’ll also be holding Parent Teacher Interviews. These are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, discuss their progress in more detail, and work together on future learning goals. Booking details will be shared with families soon, and we encourage everyone to take up this opportunity for a rich, two-way conversation about learning.

We hope that reading through your child’s report together sparks some proud moments, meaningful conversations, and maybe even a goal or two for Semester 2. As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher – we’re here to support every step of the way.

NO SCHOOL NEXT MONDAY

Just a reminder, that next Monday 16th June is a PUBLIC HOLIDAY (King's Birthday)

and there are NO students at school
