Fantastic Learning
Literacy
We havebeen diving into all things dinosaurs! In Reading and Writing we have focused on summarising facts and key information from both print and digital texts. The students have also begun designing their own dinosaurs—thinking about features, habitats and even using etymology to create scientific-sounding names by combining word parts.
You might like to ask your child what their dinosaur is called and what makes it unique! In Phonics, we’ve been exploring prefixes such as in-, un-, and pre-, along with suffixes like -ment, -less, and -ly. These can be fun to spot together in books or used in creative sentences at home.
Maths
We have finished our unit on multiplication and division, and students are encouraged to keep practising skip counting at home (by 2s, 5s, and 10s).
We’ve now moved into measurement, learning to use both non-standard and standard units, measure with rulers accurately, and understand the metric system. We’ve also been building our skills in estimating and comparing lengths. A simple way to continue this at home is to measure household objects, guess their lengths first, and then check with a ruler or tape measure—lots of fun and great practice!
Humanities
We are starting to explore how places change over time. A lovely way to support this learning is to talk with your child about how your street or neighbourhood might have looked in the past. You could look through old photos, chat with family members about their memories, or take a walk and notice what buildings, parks or features have changed. These little discoveries help students make meaningful, personal connections to the idea of change across time.
