Year Four

Dear Year Four Families,
As we approach the second half of Term Two, we would like to thank your continuous support and involvement in your child's learning. We can’t believe we’re already halfway through Term 2! It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks in Year Four,
Inquiry
Our second Unit of Inquiry, which explored the concept of resources, is coming to a close, and we are excited to begin our third unit, which focuses on Media. This new unit will be launched through a range of fun and thought-provoking provocations designed to spark curiosity and creativity. Students will have the opportunity to explore how media is used to communicate messages and influence audiences. We can’t wait to see the unique ideas and directions the students take as they dive into this engaging and relevant topic!
Reading
In Reading, students have been developing their reading and research skills. They’ve been learning how to skim and scan texts to find key information quickly, as well as how to use reliable sources when researching online.
Across the year level, students have also been enjoying book clubs, where they practise retelling stories and discussing key ideas with their peers.

Writing
Our Grade 4 students have been busy becoming expert researchers and writers! As part of our current Unit of Inquiry, they have been exploring information writing. Students selected topics connected to our inquiry and have worked through the entire writing process from brainstorming and researching to drafting, editing, and publishing their final pieces. They've done a fantastic job organising their ideas clearly and using topic-specific vocabulary to inform their readers. We are so proud of the effort and enthusiasm they’ve shown throughout this writing journey!
Mathematics
In Mathematics, our Grade 4 students have been exploring the updated Version 2.0 of the Maths Curriculum with a focus on mapping skills. They’ve been introduced to the concepts of longitude and latitude and have enjoyed learning how these imaginary lines help us locate places around the world. Using world maps, students practised identifying coordinates and locating places using degrees.
To reinforce these skills in a fun and engaging way, students have been playing the classic game Battleships. This activity has helped them apply their understanding of grid references, direction, and spatial awareness in a playful context. It’s been a great way for them to see how mapping and coordinates are used in real-life scenarios—and games!
3 Way Conferences
It was wonderful to see so many families take the time to attend our three-way conferences. It was a joy to watch students share and demonstrate their learning, and reflect on their achievements this semester. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and grateful we could celebrate these moments together with you.
