BHCS DOMINATES THE WATER AT VSAC SWIMMING
By Andrew Lockrey (Sports Coordinator)
Hold onto your swim caps - BHCS students made a splash so big at the VSAC Swimming Championships that ripples were felt all the way to the canteen. Our aquatic trio of legends: Coco B, Hannah G and Pamela T plunged headfirst into competition, powered by sheer grit, muscle memory, and possibly a breakfast of Weet-Bix and unrelenting school spirit.
Coco B, slicing through the pool like a dolphin on a sugar rush, surged into 4th place in the 50m breaststroke, narrowly missing the podium but securing eternal glory in this very article.
Pamela T meanwhile, faced the ultimate plot twist. Moments after thinking her program was over, she launched herself back into the fray — cap flying off mid-stroke — and still managed to place 5th in breaststroke, proving once and for all that greatness waits for no rinse cycle.
And then there’s Hannah G possibly part-mermaid. While her results remain shrouded in mystery (and perhaps legend), we are assured she swam with the power and the heart of a true champion. Some say the chlorine parted for her. Some say she is the chlorine.
To say we’re proud is an understatement. These three didn’t just represent BHCS — they embodied it. Commitment. Chaos. Competitive goggles.
To our water warriors: thank you. You’ve done your school proud, your families proud, and possibly caused a minor tidal shift in the MSAC pool. Never stop swimming. Never stop being absolute icons.
C'EST MAGNIFIQUE! VICTORY IN THE INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES CHAMPIONSHIP
By Daniel Dema (Head of French)
Earlier this month, over the course of 1 week, the Year 7 -10 French students took part in an online global competition called The Education Perfect International Languages Championship.
This is actually a long standing tradition in our school started by Madame McGrath in 2015. Since then, we have always managed to obtain very good results.
This year was no different. Our school came 1st in Victoria and Australia for French in our group size category out of 146 schools from all over the world.
Congratulations to all of our students who helped in this team effort! Our top contenders were Riley J (Year 10) - first place, Mahaliah K and Evie B (Year 9) - tied for second place, and Esther B (Year 7) - third place. Bon travail, tout le monde!
HANDS-ON SCIENCE: A DAY AT TWISTED MOORABBIN FOR YEAR 1
By Louise Cassar (Year 1 Teacher)
Last week the Year 1's went to TwistED Science in Moorabbin! We had an amazing day of exploring different types of forces through their investigation floors. We got to shoot paper aeroplane through hoops, we made helicopters and floated them through the air, we climbed through a rope maze, built a foam castle and dropped a bowling ball through a tube! It was such a great way to engage with the forces that we have been learning about in the classroom.
We also completed a workshop where we met a real scientist named Dan and he taught us about contact and non-contact forces through magnets! BUT I think the highlight was seeing 'Vinnie' the van de graff machine create static electricity and style our hair. It was such a great day of exploring and learning. Thank you to all the parents helpers who were able to assist on the day!
