From Our School Leaders

Curriculum Day And School Review

Schools operate on four-year plans called School Strategic Plans (SSP) and they are made every four years after the school has its review. Our next review is in July, Week 1 of Term 3.

In school reviews, all policies, procedures, teaching and learning programs, and practices are examined by a panel. The panel is made up of internal and external staff. From this review process, we form a new Strategic Plan with new goals and new directions.

We are looking back over our past four years and looking forward to the next four years. We have been evaluating, as a staff, what we have implemented over the four-year period; the practices, programs, successes and areas still needing attention. It’s a good process and one that takes time and needs input from the stakeholders.

During Monday’s Curriculum Day, the whole staff looked through review documents and gave their input into the effectiveness of the initiatives we have put in place, and we also looked at the goals that were set to measure success over the past four years. We also looked forward to the direction we’d like to take in the future, working on a new vision and narrative for our school.

Parent Forum

We would like to hold a parent forum on Wednesday 11th June, 2.45-3:30pm, to get parent voice as we evaluate our practices and programs for the upcoming review. This will be held in the staffroom. We will be discussing a range of topics and also asking for your ideas on big picture thinking for Scoresby Primary School’s bright future.

We also have a survey up at the moment for parent feedback on our reporting practices around learning tasks. Some parents have already accessed this and completed it.  We would be happy to have more responses. Please copy the link (below) into your browser and take the short survey.

Buildings And Grounds Update

Over the school holidays, there will be a few projects happening outside. Funds for these works will come from the hard-earned fundraising of our fabulous PFA.

Sandpit Upgrade

We are upgrading the old sandpit at the western end of the school, which many younger children like to play in at break times. The sandpit will be dug out, extended and surrounded with flat mud rocks so that many children can easily access it, and the sand replenished ready for play.

Sleeper Replacement

In our shadesail-covered eating area and junior playground, there are quite a few sleepers that have reached the end of their life. These will be dug out and replaced for safety reasons, and to keep the correct levels of soft-fall mulch in place underneath the equipment.

NAPLAN Results

We have received preliminary NAPLAN data and we are very pleased with the results. The full data set has not yet been released as marking the Writing component of NAPLAN takes time.

Our Year 5s excelled in the areas of Reading - with 90% of students in 'Strong' or 'Exceeding' bands - and Numeracy - with 86% of students in 'Strong' or 'Exceeding' bands.

Our Year 3s also achieved good results, with 75% of students in 'Strong' or 'Exceeding' bands in Reading and Numeracy.

We will give a more detailed overview of our whole school results when the final data set comes out. Student results will be sent home to families once we receive the paperwork.

Biggest Morning Tea

What a wonderful morning we had on Tuesday with our first ever Biggest Morning Tea. It was so well supported by our whole school community - thank you! We raised just over $500, which is a large amount of money considering everything was sold for $1.00 a piece.

We would like to recognise and thank Tina for organising the whole event and making the games, and the very popular “Guess the Lollies in the Jar” competition. It was a really terrific event!

You can see more photos and read more about the event in the 'Biggest Morning Tea' section of this newsletter.
