Celebrating Our Student Voice Team: Enhancing Playtime for All
Dear Parents and Carers,
At St Andrews, we are immensely proud of the proactive efforts of our Student Voice Team. Their dedication to fostering a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable play environment has led to significant enhancements in our playground activities.
Introducing a Second Soccer Pitch Trial
Recognizing the challenges of having a single soccer pitch, the Student Voice Team proposed the introduction of a second pitch to alleviate congestion and promote safety. Thanks to their initiative, a trial of a second soccer pitch will commence next week on the oval and will continue until the end of Term 2. This additional pitch is designated for Year 3/4 students and will be closely monitored to assess its impact, in particular the safety of other students.
Meanwhile, the existing front soccer pitch will operate on a roster system, shared between the established Year 3–6 girls' group and Year 5/6 boys. This arrangement allows for additional time for each of these groups of students while ensuring equitable access and maintains the inclusive spirit of our playtime activities.
Enhancing Playtime with Additional Resources
Beyond soccer, the Student Voice Team has advocated for a more diverse playtime experience. Their efforts have led to the introduction of more sports equipment, providing students with a variety of games and activities during recess and lunch breaks.
We extend our gratitude to the Parents & Friends (P&F) Association for their financial support, which has facilitated the purchase of new soccer goals, further enriching our sports facilities.
Ongoing Collaboration and Feedback
This initiative is a trial, and we are committed to continuous improvement. We will continue to engage with the Student Voice Team, who will offer suggestions and feedback to refine our playtime strategies.
We also acknowledge and appreciate the teachers who have facilitated class meetings to discuss these developments, ensuring that student voices are heard and valued. Special thanks to Trish Loyd for her exemplary leadership and oversight of the Student Voice Team made up of our PBL captains.
Looking Ahead
The proactive measures taken by our Student Voice Team exemplify the positive impact of student-led initiatives. Their commitment to enhancing our school's play environment reflects the core values of St Andrews. We look forward to the continued success of these initiatives and the ongoing collaboration between students, staff, and the wider school community.
Regards
