Dear Skye Families,
We've just completed our annual Student Attitudes to School Survey with all students in Years 4, 5, and 6. This comprehensive survey captures student perspectives on various aspects of school life, including learning experiences, friendships, wellbeing, and overall satisfaction. The insights we gather are important for shaping our ongoing improvements and ensuring we're meeting our students' needs effectively.
The initial findings show positive trends in several key areas that enhance student engagement and academic success. We've seen solid gains in Managing Bullying (increased by 11%), Effective Classroom Behaviour (up 8%), and Effective Teaching Time (up 8%). Furthermore, growth in Stimulated Learning (up 11%), Teacher Concern (up 14%), and School Connectedness (up 10%) indicates that our students feel more motivated with their learning and increasingly supported by both staff and the broader school community.
A full analysis, including comparisons with similar schools and state-wide data, will be ready soon. I'm looking forward to sharing these detailed findings with our community as they highlight our progress and help us identify priorities for future development.
Last week, I joined our Year 5 students at Forest Edge camp in Neerim South for a fabulous three days. Despite encountering the full spectrum of winter weather, our students showed impressive resilience and participated enthusiastically in every activity. This was our first visit to this venue, and we were impressed by the beautiful natural setting.
Students enjoyed gathering around the campfire, learned the art of damper-making and cooking (always better with generous butter and jam!), tried their hand at disc golf, collaborated on constructing shelter huts, and tackled challenges including rock climbing, flying fox adventures, and team-building exercises. My sincere appreciation goes to Krystal Anderson for her excellent camp coordination, along with our dedicated Skye PS team: Jenny Kelly, Hailee Eade, Tarnia Mathieson, Jye Dignan, and Riley De-ath-Chung. We're also grateful to parent volunteers Claudia Lazcano-Diaz and Gus Martin for their generous support.
Semester Reports: Please note that Semester 1 Reports will be released on Wednesday 25th June, giving families adequate time to review their child's progress before the upcoming parent teacher interviews.
Parent Teacher Interviews: Our Parent Teacher Interviews are scheduled for the final week of this term (beginning Monday 28th June). All conferences will take place after regular school hours, with teachers offering appointment times including extended afternoon slots (until 4:30 PM) and at least one evening session per teacher (until 6:00 PM) throughout the week.
Our online booking platform will go live next week, allowing families to select appointment times that suit their schedules. These conferences provide valuable opportunities for discussions between teachers and families about student achievements, progress, and strategies for continued success.
Unfortunately, we've recently encountered situations where parents have directly contacted other families' children regarding school-related matters. It's essential that parents never approach children other than their own to discuss student conflicts or concerns. All school-related issues should be directed to our teaching staff or leadership team for appropriate resolution. Further information regarding the school's expectations for the conduct of community members can be found in the Skye PS Statement of Values and Philosophy Policy.
We are experiencing high levels of enrolment demand for next year, which is pleasing and a lovely reflection on our wonderful school community. A reminder to families with younger siblings due to start Prep next year to get their forms in as soon as possible. Enrolments close on 25th July.
Have a great fortnight!
Warm regards,
