CAMP

Last week, the Grade 5 students enjoyed our camp at Forest Edge. Although the weather was cold, it did not stop the students from enjoying themselves. Everyone stayed warm and kept their spirits high throughout the day despite some rain. Although some of us did get a little wet!

The students took part in several activities, including frisbee golf, archery, and flying fox. Many showed great skill and enthusiasm, especially during the archery session, where they learned how to aim carefully and hit the target. The frisbee golf was a hit too, with students working together to complete the course. The flying fox was thrilling for everyone and many students enjoyed the rush as they zoomed through the cold air.

Overall, the camp was a great success. The students participated positively and supported each other during all the activities. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Grade 5 students to have fun, try new things, and create lasting memories.

5/6 Hoop-time

Any students wishing to participate in this years 5/6 Hoop-time competition can register by completing the permission form sent out last week via the QKR app.

This year our Hoop-time competition will be held on Friday the 1st of August at Jubilee Park Stadium.

We are hoping to take as many teams as possible and encourage anyone to get involved no matter how much basketball experience you have previously.

Future Learning

Literacy

During the next two weeks student we be analysing the anthology "Waves." During this unit students will build their knowledge of new vocabulary, identify figurative language within the text, compare and contrast the experiences of characters and identify similes and use them to describe character traits. They will consolidate their understanding of direct speech and be given the opportunity to use this knowledge in their writing.

Numeracy

Our numeracy focus is Decimals. Students will be explicitly taught to label a blank number line to show thousandths, find a decimal to thousandths on a number line and identify errors on a number line and correct them. They will review concepts previously taught and be encouraged to share their thinking with others to enhance their understanding.

Inquiry

We are coming to the end of our inquiry unit "Earth and The Solar System." The end product of this unit was a research project investigating, inner planets, outer planets, dwarf planets, moons, comets and asteroids.

Wellbeing

Personal and cultural strengths will be investigated during our wellbeing lessons. Students will continue to use their Ready to Learn Scale to monitor their readiness to learn.
