What's happening in our classroom?

Literacy

Over the next two weeks students will continue to work on their narrative stories based on our mentor text, Leo and Ralph. Students will be planning the action and tension section of their story, learning how to engage the reader and build suspense.

In reading we have been practising our inferring skills by reflecting on different parts of the text to consider character emotions, make predictions and explain choices made by the author. All students have been engaged in the text and are excited to continue to read together and discover what happens next in our story.

Numeracy

Over the next two weeks students will be beginning a unit that focuses on decimals.

As part of this unit we will be exploring:

  • how to write and represent decimal numbers

  • placing decimals on a number line

  • reading and ordering decimals to hundredths

In the upcoming weeks we will also be exploring data in mathematics.

This will include:

  • identifying  and comparing different graphs

  • how to assess and analyse the factors of a data set

  • how to select an appropriate data display

       Inquiry

This term students will be starting a new Inquiry unit titled 'Our Island Home'.

This unit will cover many areas including;

  • Australia's neighbouring countries and what life is like in these places

Last week, students worked in groups to research different climate zones around the world. Students learnt about the difference between weather and climate and reflected on which climate zone they would prefer to live in and why.
