What's happening in the classrooms this fortnight?

Literacy: After a few busy weeks of swimming and assessments, this week we were right back into it. We have been exploring the text 'Flood' by Jackie French. This text has pushed the students understanding of interesting and powerful vocabularly that describes natural disaster.

The students have also been learning about information reports and have started researching under the subheadings such as habitat, diet, conservation status and threats. This will be an ongoing project tied in with our Inquiry unit.

Here is a video of the powerful story, Flood:

Numeracy:

This fortnight we will be looking at the following topics: Angles, patterns (specifically number patterns), time and addition and subtraction. We have continued with our daily reviews as well which we think the students are becoming experts at! Go Grade Three!

Inquiry:  As mentioned above we have started our research projects about our beautiful Australian wildlife. Each child has chosen a species and is researching under subheadings. We can't wait to share our learning over the next few weeks!

Wellbeing: Out topic has continued to be about 'problem solving' this week. This includes going through scenarios and thinking about the pros and cons of how we could work out the problem. We think about who would be impacted, whether it was the wisest decision etc. Mrs Furlong conducted one session out on Thursday afternoon in the gorgeous sunshine, in our indigenous garden. It was a welcome break from the rain we have had!

Swimming - our superstars!

We were so impressed by the show of our four 'R's' during our swimming week over the past fortnight! Our students showed our Skye Primary values so well by being resilient in the pool, being respectful of others and members of the public, being responsible for their belongings and building positive relationships with their educators and each other. We are so proud!
