Connect: Year 2

Hello Grade Two Families,
It has been a BUSY and somewhat messy few weeks with school swimming, assessment, Miss Eade on Grade 5 camp, an extra-long four-day weekend and Grade 2 Science Day! We have resumed regular classroom teaching and learning and are excited for the next few weeks of learning before school holidays are upon us once again!
Thanks,
Hailee, Dave, and Emma
Little Learners Online Platform REMINDER
We encourage you to access the Little Learners online platform regularly to find appropriately levelled texts for your child to practise their reading. We have noticed a significantly large number of the Grade 2 Cohort have not accessed any books online- please let us know if you require support to get online or if you would prefer physical books to be sent home. Daily reading is the best way for your child to improve their accuracy, fluency and comprehension.
Dojo Award Recipients
Well done to the Grade 2 students who have achieved 'Bronze' status by earning 75+ dojo points for showing our expected behaviours in all that they do! A special shoutout to our first 'Silver' award winner for earning 150 dojo points- ROSSY from 2A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2A: Logan W
2B: n/a
2C: Iziah and Kade
Key Dates for the Calendar
DATE | EVENT |

Friday 20th June | Hot Dog Day |
Tuesday 24th June | Grade 2 Planning Day (students with specialists for the day) |
REMINDERS:
- Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.
- Library days: 2A - Tuesday, 2B - Wednesday, 2C - Wednesday. Please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home. (The specialist timetable for each class can be seen below.)
- We are noticing a number of students are requiring ongoing support to tie their shoelaces and this is becoming a big distraction in the classroom. Here is a handy video they can watch to practise - EASIEST shoe tying trick ever
Upcoming Learning
Literacy
In Phonics we will be reviewing recent learning, including the many ways to make the long vowel sounds (such as 'e' -> ee/ea/-y/ee/e and 'i' -> igh, _y, i-e, i, ie).
We have come to the end of our Ancient Greece unit and look forward to students creating their own Greek God or Goddess. We will also be looking at our sentence level writing with a focus on the who, what, when, where and why of a sentence and the ways we can add adjectives for detail.
Numeracy
- Students will continue to partition, regroup and rename three-digit numbers before writing them in standard and non-standard from. This will be extended to four-digit numbers as well.
- We will be exploring location with a focus on directional language, spatial awareness, mapping keys and birds eye view.
Wellbeing
- Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships - Facing Fears and Managing Anger
We have noticed that our Grade 2 Cohort are wandering during playtime and not engaging in games or activities. We believe this is contributing to the issues students are having outside and would like to support them to have more focused play when in the yard. We plan to set up some games and activities for Grade 2 students during recess and lunch and are on the hunt for some donations such as blocks, cars, dolls, figurines (ideally things that are hardy, waterproof and do not contain tiny parts). If you want to make some space at home, we will gladly take them off your hands so PLEASE send them our way!
Inquiry
GRADE 2 SCIENCE DAY was full of exploration and fun! The classrooms transformed into Chemical, Physics and Earth/Space Science Labs and our little scientists enjoyed approaching things with curiosity and intrigue! Check out the pics below!
