French

The students at Moriac have all been working hard in French this term. All students have been focussing on writing and pronunciation, and I am excited to see the work that the Preps and 1/2s complete for their Common Assessment Tasks in the coming weeks.
The preps have been continuing their work on animals and colours, looking at the story 'Brown Bear' in French. They are labelling their own drawings of animals with the name and colour of the animal and it is wonderful to see their writing skills develop as they continue their letter practice in class.
The grade 1/2s have been looking at grammar, and learning that adjectives can change spelling based on if they are describing a masculine noun or a feminine noun. We have been learning the names of different animals and noticing if they are masculine or feminine nouns, and then describing them with size and colour. Well done to all the Grade 1/2s with this tricky unit of writing!
The grade 3/4s have been continuing to look at recipe writing and vocabulary that is needed to write recipes in French. We have learnt lists of verbs, ingredients and kitchen utensils and the students have played vocabulary games to remember them. They are now writing their own recipe in French, re-writing phrases and steps to fit in with the vocabulary they know. Each lesson we have been looking at a French recipe video, and this week we saw a Savoury Zucchini Cake which I have tried before and is delicious - I'll put the recipe below and maybe you can have a go as a family to make it!
Savoury Zucchini Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
3 zucchinis
2 eggs
100 ml milk
1 tablespoon of olive oil
65g soft goats cheese
75g self raising flour
Grated cheese
Pepper
Nutmeg
- Thinly slice the zucchinis with a mandolin
- Whisk together the 2 eggs, milk and oil.
- Add the goats cheese, mix together well.
- Add the flour, a pinch of black pepper and a pinch of nutmeg and mix together well.
- Incorporate the sliced zucchinis, coating the zucchinis in the batter.
- Place into a lined cake mould and flatten the mixture. Sprinkle grated cheese on top.
- Bake at 180 degrees for 40 minutes or until the zucchinis are soft.
The Grade 5/6s have been working on their conversational French and pronunciation. We have learnt vocabulary for buying items at a bakery and at a green grocer. Students are writing scripts for themselves and a partner, one being the baker and one the green grocer and they will go to each others 'shop' to buy food.
