Year 5/6

English
In the last few weeks in English we have been continuing on our units on our class text Nevermoor - The Trials of Morrigan Crow and Poetry. Students have engaged with the novel and have summarised and predicted when reading in our daily sessions. We have continued to consolidate the daily Literacy Block in which we have been building handwriting and touch-typing skills as well as engaged in daily fluency reading and language conventions to develop our spelling and grammar skills.
Maths
In Maths over the last few weeks we have been focussing on the operations in number and algebra. Students have been building their fact fluency and revision in our daily reviews and they have been learning and applying a number of skills and algorithms to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals.
Humanities
Our students are busily getting ready for Market Day, and have been researching big and small businesses, learning about supply and demand and also the many facets of Entrepreneurship! Students are working on some advertisment for Market Day, as well as their own individual group's product or service offering for the day. We can't wait to see it all come together! Market Day will be held in the last week of Term 2- Date TBC.
Reminders
We have placed a camp expression of interest on Compass for our 5/6 camp to Howqua in late October. If you are wanting your child to attend, please consent and provide a $50 deposit. We will finalise costings over the next few weeks.
Thank you to all who came to our Education Week Open Classroom session last week. Our students all took part in a research group task to investigate another culture.
