Prep

Special Persons Visit - thank you! We trust you were spoiled on Mother's Day and enjoyed the students' gifts and creations!

Literacy

In Literacy, the students have been working extremely hard when recognising each letter in the alphabet and the sounds they represent. Students have been developing their ability to say the word, segment the sounds, write the word and blend the sounds together to check they have represented each sound correctly.

We encourage students to practice the Golden and Red words (High-Frequency Words) we have sent home. This will help to map the words in their brains, and they will become automatic when they read and write them.

Students have been making text-to-text connections. We have been exploring how we can connect to different parts of the book, including characters, setting, feelings and events. These are some of the books we read below.

Students have been exploring letter writing. We enjoyed making invitations for our Special Person Visit, and we wrote letters to our buddies. Students looked at the different features and important details that we must include.

We are starting to explore nonfiction texts and discussing what makes them nonfiction. Students are becoming experts in different topics and have been practising recording facts about things they know really well.

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about the parts of numbers (e.g 7 can be made up of 3 and 4), combining numbers (e.g. 5 and 3 make 8) and identifying and creating patterns. Each day we practice these skills, and students are becoming increasingly fluent, which is amazing to see!

Humanities

During our Geography unit of work, students have been exploring weather and seasons. Students connected to this through their birthdays. They looked at what seasons their birthday is in and what the weather might be like.

Cyber Safety

Students took part in a cyber safety session run by the local police. Students listened to a story and explored ways to stay safe online. We spoke about the importance of not sharing personal information online and communicating with our trusted adults if something doesn't feel right when we are using technology. Students are reminded to share with their trusted adults what they are using technology for and what games they are playing.

National Simultaneous Story Time

Together, we watched the live stream of the reading of the book 'The Truck Cat.' The students really enjoyed listening to the story read by the author and drawing their own cats with the guidance of the illustrator. Students also created their own trucks and cats with sentences to match.

Education Week

Thank you to the families who joined us last week. It was great to be able to showcase some of the awesome things we have been doing in the classroom around cultures. Thank you for your help in making trucks with us. They looked great!

Bravehearts

We had a visit from Ditto. He shared songs and different dances about personal safety skills. Students joined in with the songs and dances, enjoying a booklet to share the information with parents at home.
