Religious Education - Lent, Caritas and Class Prayer Cloths

The Beginning of Lent
Our school community came together to observe Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of our Lenten journey. This special day provided students with the opportunity to reflect, pray, and prepare their hearts for the season ahead.
On Ash Wednesday, students in Years 3 to 6 attended the Parish Mass, where they received ashes as a sign of repentance and commitment to their Lenten journey. Meanwhile, our Year 1 and 2 students participated in special classroom liturgies, led by their teachers, which allowed them to engage with the significance of the day in a meaningful way. These students also received the ashes.
As we continue through Lent, we encourage families to reflect on the themes of prayer, fasting, and giving. Through these acts, we prepare our hearts for Easter and strive to make a positive impact on those around us. Let us walk this journey together with faith and kindness, embracing the true spirit of the season.
Launching Caritas Australia 2026
This Lent, our school community is excited to support the launch of Caritas Australia’s 2026 Project Compassion campaign. Caritas Australia is an agency dedicated to humanitarian aid, supporting vulnerable communities both in Australia and around the world. Through education, sustainable development, and emergency relief, Caritas works to create lasting change for those in need.
To help our students understand the importance of this initiative, teachers have received resources to guide classroom discussions and reflections. These materials highlight the impact of Caritas’ work and encourage students to think about how they can contribute to a more just and compassionate world.
Each class has been provided with a Caritas donation box, where students and families can begin contributing to this vital cause. Every donation, no matter how small, helps make a difference in the lives of people facing poverty and hardship. Our Year 6 RE and Social Justice Leaders have displayed posters around the school to encourage students to donate coins and learn about how their contributions are making a difference.
We encourage families to continue these conversations at home, exploring ways to give, reflect, and take action during Lent. Together, we can embody the spirit of compassion and generosity, making a real impact in the lives of those who need it most.
Class Prayer Cloths
At our Beginning of Year Mass, each class had their prayer cloths blessed by Fr. Andrew. These special cloths will be used throughout the year as a central part of our prayer spaces and during Christian Meditation.
In the last few weeks, the prayer cloths were designed by each class and reflect our school theme of Belonging. Students worked together to create symbols, colours, and patterns that represent unity, friendship, and our connection to God and one another.
These cloths will help students enter a calm and reflective space during prayer and meditation, reminding them that they are part of a faith-filled community where everyone belongs.
